We were lucky to catch up with Asher Cataldo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Asher thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Asher Cataldo is a singer, song writer with a wide range of genres. He was raised in middle Tennessee. You can hear his musical influences and up bringing through every song he writes. His style ranges from classic country, modern country, folk, hip hop, and blues- he really brings it all to the table. He started writing at 8 years old and has been honing his craft ever since. In and out of studios and writer rounds in Nashville TN, he has been making a name for himself around town. He’s not seeking fortune or fame. He’s simply doing it for the love of music and will continue sharing his art with the world.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My Name’s Asher Cataldo, I was born in Israel and grew up in middle Tennessee, about 45 minutes south of Nashville. I come from a large family, with 12 siblings. 8 brother and 4 sister. My oldest brother, and sister was a big part of my Musical up bringing. They were both musicians. My sister playing guitar, and writing song, and my brother playing lead guitar and working on the production side of the recordings. I remember watching them record when I was a kid, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do. It didn’t take long before I was writing my own songs and I started recording around 10 years old. My younger brother Ezra Cataldo was also a huge influence in my career. He actually was the one who taught me how to play guitar. Ezra and myself worked as a duo for awhile, with both of us writing and recording, and playing shows, up until he felt it was best to step back from music and focus on his personal life.
I continue and went in more of an Americana/folk direction. Recording one of his songs “Need to be”. Which was the title track for a 3 song EP After that project my style started leaning into more of a modern country sound, Which reflects with my latest song “cowboy” also co-written with Ezra
I started gaining traction around 2019 after co-writing a friend’s EP, which opened some doors in Nashville for me. Getting me into writers rounds and getting to showcase my songs. I’ve seen small success on my song “echos” and I’m seeing a larger success with “Cowboy”. I’m currently working with a fellow artist Bryce Reeg and I’ve co-wrote a few song that’s going to be on his debut EP “the garage tapes” I’m extremely excited to be part of that project, and with the new year ahead of us, Bryce and myself will be touring together through out the summer of 2023. We’re both looking forward to getting out there and start sharing our songs with old and new fans!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I believe being as transparent, and as genuine as can be. In the music industry people can call out fakes pretty fast. I think you should write about what you know, and how you live. Whether it be prior or past experience. Just stay honest to yourself and your fans.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I started in music I was a hip hop artist, but as I continued to grew I found myself relating to country music much more then any artist putting out hip hop, and being a fan of country and living as close as I did to Nashville, it didn’t take long for me to pick up a guitar and start writing song about what I was seeing around my small home town.
