We were lucky to catch up with Ashaee Bundy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashaee, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am happy being an Influencer. I feel blessed that I have had the opportunity to become a public figure, influence, and inspire people. I do think about how different it would be having a “regular job”. I am currently in the process of going to school for a degree. I do love social media and being able to have people that I inspire, but sometimes I do believe that I am a person that doesn’t care too much for it. I realized lately that I have little interest in showing my day to day life to others for many reasons. One main reason because when you share your life to others that gives them the opportunity to be negative towards you. They’re are some nasty people on the internet, that will do anything to ambush and disrespect you. Also I feel as though the internet is a place that some people come to prove a point to others & be in competition it isn’t really fun anymore like the old days. They’re pros and cons to working on social media, I’m blessed to be involved.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, I am Ashaee Bundy. I started YouTube when I was 16 just by getting influenced by the popular YouTubers in 2017. I started the channel with my ex because every time I tried to make videos alone I was so shy and felt awkward talking to my phone. I began getting sponsorships and becoming a brand ambassador for many hair companies. We began to make lots of videos with challenges and pranks and our videos started reaching half a million views. At a stage it was becoming a very toxic relationship with lots of domestic violence and It appeared as if I was forcing him to do YouTube. Even though we started together I had to realized that Youtube and moving to Texas was my dream not his, he was just tagging along. Once things have got real bad between us to the point where I was very depressed and getting emotionally, mentally, and physically drained from abuse I decided to leave him. With our new apartment that I prayed so much for. I was homeless at 18 years old and stayed with my cousin Zakariah for a few weeks. She was there for me through a lot of the toxic times. A couple weeks later I got my new loft on the water Downtown Toledo and continued making videos alone telling my crazy story times, blogging, and making videos with my Best friend Deuce who was also there for me at a depressed time of my life. Within a year I decided to leave everything and everyone and move to Houston. I stayed in Vegas for about 2 months at my grandmothers house and finally made my dream move. I moved with nothing enough to sign my lease and stack up my fridge! Staying dedicated with working online and blessings started falling out of the sky for me. I began making videos with other YouTubers and making friends in Texas. Early 2022 I started Onlyfans for fun and made over 6 figures. I’m proud of myself for not letting my childhood or abusive relationships stop me from reaching my goals, or breaking me as a person.
How did you build your audience on social media?
This is a question I have gotten a lot when I first started YouTube, till now, and also with Onlyfans. Starting YouTube I made sure I was very consistent with posting and engaging with the little support that I had. Me and my ex posted over 40 YouTube videos before we ever seen a dollar from it. We did it because we enjoyed it and wanted to execute the plan and reach the goals we have set up. I did promotion on my own platforms. I never paid for a paid promotion for either of my accounts for YouTube or Onlyfans. I think when starting to build support you should go with what works for you. I do believe paid promotion is a good thing that can help you if you go through the right person that you can benefit from, but also make sure you promote your brand no matter what. With Onlyfans I started by promoting on Instagram and noticed that you have to do it a certain way or your posts will be flagged. So twitter is my go to promotion page for Onlyfans. My following is bigger on Instagram so posting cute pictures and adding my linktree seems to work out fine now.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being a creator is having people that look up to me. I love inspiring people and giving people great life advice. It’s also feels very rewarding accomplishing goals that I have set for myself. One of my big goals for myself was to move from My hometown Toledo, Ohio to Houston, Texas. I’m appreciative for my supporters for supporting me through everything.
