We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Asha Yarde. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Asha below.
Asha , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My hair care brand, Gorgeously Beautiful was created around our mission which is to help those that have curly, kinky, and coily hair to embrace their curls all while providing products that will maintain the health of their hair, take the hassle out of their hair care routine, and have them fall back in love with their natural hair. This mission means a lot to me because I want others who have natural hair to be able to attain their hair care goals the way I was able to attain mine.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Asha Yarde & I am a Registered Nurse as well as the founder and owner of the natural hair care brand Gorgeously Beautiful. I have always been into taking care of my natural hair but became a lot more interested when I was in high school. I used to do a lot of research on the science of hair as well as the science behind the ingredients used in hair products. I used to struggle to find hair care products to properly moisturize my kinky, type 4A, low porosity hair to help me retain length. My hair was constantly dry with tangles which kept leading to breakage. I was tired of having to use multiple products on my hair to define my curls because it ultimately lead to product build up and on top of that my hair care routine would take hours out of my day. I wanted products that catered to my natural hair’s needs so I can have my goals of having healthy hair and being able to retain length. I began creating products in my kitchen and those products became known as Gorgeously Beautiful.
Gorgeously Beautiful is a product line that carries a leave in conditioner, a curly cream, and a sealing oil. These products are called the Curl Defining Moisturizer, Moisturizing Butter, and Sealing Oil. Our products prevent common curly hair problems such as dry hair, breakage, tangles, fairy knots, frizz & etc.
What sets our hair care brand apart from others is that we use a minimal amount of ingredients to give our naturalists simplicity and transparency so they are aware of what is going into their hair as well as a piece of mind knowing our products do not contain any harmful chemicals or preservatives. Our brand contains natural and safe ingredients and does not include any parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, silicones, sulfates, artificial color, formaldehyde and phthalates. Our products are also pH balanced to match the hair’s pH which has a slightly acidic pH, ranging from 4.5-5.5. We make sure our products are pH balanced because it helps to maintain the hair’s natural acidity, which is essential for the overall health of the hair.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A time that I had to utilize resilience was when I was creating my Curl Defining Moisturizer. I wanted a leave in conditioner that had multiple benefits for curly hair. I wanted it to give definition, long lasting moisture, & slip. It was a lot of trial and error but I kept going and eventually I was able to create it and it’s our best seller!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the idea of being able run a business all on your own. Running a business is a lot of work and requires a lot to be done and doing everything on your own can easily lead to burn out. I had to learn to delegate tasks to someone who is able to accomplish them such as an assistant so that I can focus on the important aspects of the business and prevent feeling overwhelmed.
