Alright, Asha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
The idea of IT’S ASHA TEAS started out as a novelty item, initially I created it for a music launch. IT’S ASHA is my brand and artist name as well, so in the fall of 2020 I released a single called “Bangles”, and with the release I designed merch for the campaign. I wanted to give my followers and fans something that is an extension of me whilst enjoying an experience. Slauson Spice Chai was that very blend which started it all, it did so well I had to restock multiple times. The response I received from the launch was unexpected and encouraging which eventually led me into starting IT’S ASHA TEAS the following year and making it official. Since then I have been learning, growing, and creating new blends.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve had a love for tea since childhood and it is a staple in my home. Growing up in a West Indian family I have so many fond memories of gatherings centered around tea and music. I never would have imagined that now in my life I would be growing both, I have such a passion for it and I look forward to what the future holds for me. Tea is a universal vehicle that connects us together, people from all walks of life drink tea. That is what ITS ASHA looks to bring with these tea blends. Connection.
Currently I have three blends with various flavour profiles listed as follows:
1. Slauson Spice Chai which is my take on a classic masala chai.
2. Neighbourhood Nectar A hibiscus base with floral and citrus notes.
3. Kashmiri ” Pink” Chai A green tea base with green cardamom and spiced undertones.
Made with organic tea and spices each blend is handcrafted in small batches to ensure all ingredients are perfectly balanced. I am truly proud of these blends, I put a lot of time, research, and testing to ensure each blend is made with quality and full bodied flavour.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I definitely would have to say hosting tea parties and pop-ups. It is personable and it allows me to connect with the client. Customers are more inclined to purchase and be invested when the product is tangible especially a food product. They get to taste the quality, learn the story, and see the passion behind it.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Honestly just being myself. I know that sounds cliche but it is true, no matter how the world changes around us people are always looking for connection, recognition, and relatability. Authenticity and consistency is the key, no matter what product or brand if those two things are to the forefront your audience will find you. Be patient it will happen.
