We recently connected with Asha Love and have shared our conversation below.
Asha, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
It goes back to when I was a young around the age of 8yrs old. Always coming up with creative ideas to keep myself, and family entertained. My imagination was so broaden with so many different things, that even I will get overwhelmed at times. There was so many ideas coming to mind at once. I believe an artist has many sides to them and creating new things kind of takes you out of whatever it is you wanna be at the moment and gives you that fairytale that you’ve always wanted to be in.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Traci Porter, but everyone knows me as Asha love the red ninja mermaid. Honestly, it’s just looking up and seeing opportunities of castings, and reaching out to photographers our videographers to see if they were interested in any ideas that I may have at the moment. It wasn’t easy because there’s a lot of times you’re left on read or the people will take your ideas and do it with someone else, but it was staying consistent and knowing that this is what I want to do and regardless of what may happen what is for you is for you, so I just kept going. Which led me to just start shooting with my phone and that’s how I got started.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When someone sees my work, and says that something that I created made them either laugh or feel inspired that means more to me than any views are likes. The idea that I touch someone makes my day so much better.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That I had to fit a certain narrative in order to be accepted by people. Doing things that society would say that I need to do in order for me to “ normal “. Saying, your life is over once you become a mom the dreams die is a false narrative that we’ve all been told. but I can still be an amazing mother, while pursuing my dreams as well. Its the main thing I had to unlearn.
