Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ash Tadghighi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ash, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the early days of establishing your own firm. What can you share?
When I left law school in 2012, the country was coming out of the housing crisis and the market was very bad for new attorneys. Big firms were not hiring like the were before and jobs were scarce. I decided to go my own way and learn what was needed along the way. Unfortunately law school does not prepare you for running your own firm. I learned a lot of tough lessons, like under-valuing my services.
After owning my own practice now for 11 years with offices in multiple states, I wouldn’t have done it any other way. Betting on yourself is the best bet you can make. I struggled and it took time but ultimately the reward of being your own boss and running a successful business far outweighs the tough times.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I wasn’t always sure law was the path for me. I have degree in biology and thought I may be a dentist. I quickly learned I wanted my clients to be able to communicate with me and that’s hard when your fingers are in their mouths. When I got into law school I felt I may go into corporate law and work for a big firm. Circumstances with the job market when I graduated pushed me into my own firm. I’ve always been independent, being an only child, but I have to admit it was scary going out on your own. I decided the best way to grow my practice is to treat my clients like I treat my friends and family. I gave out my personal cell number so they could reach my anytime, I still do, and I always made sure to communicate often with my clients to make sure they knew what was going with their case at all times. The feedback I received from my clients was overwhelmingly positive and I knew this was the way forward.
I’m always most proud when I hear the joy in my clients voice when they hear their accident case settled for a high amount or the nervous excitement when a client hears their new LLC has been approved and they are about to start their own journey with a new business.
These experiences led to my firm’s tagline, “In a crash? Just Call Ash!” I want my clients to know that when they call me that everything from that point on is taken care of and I will be there every step of the way.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Finding a lawyer that fits you isn’t as easy as googling “lawyer” and picking one. I felt the most important thing in building my practice is communication. I’d often hear friends complain about their past experiences with lawyers and how they never knew what was going on in their case. I felt that in order to build the trust necessary for my client to trust me when I advise them is to communicate well with them, even if the news isn’t the best I want them to know we will figure it out.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals. Referrals. Referrals. There is no better source than a former client. I make sure I achieve the best possible result for every client, big case or small case. When someone else is in need they will ask their immediate circle of family and friends and if you’ve done your job well that person will sing your praises.
