We were lucky to catch up with Ash Redhorse recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ash, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
When asking myself “what if” to this idea, I surprised myself when I came to the conclusion that mostly I wouldn’t change a thing. For some context, I started writing and playing my own music at the age of 16, I’m self taught and was mainly a solo artists in the beginning. I did not have a lot of resources to record my own music so I just focused on writing new songs all the time. Most of that time I spent it mastering how to play those songs with diverse picking & strumming patterns, meanwhile weaving all of my songs together into one huge album to tell a beautiful story.
Now, let’s fast forward 10 years…
During this time I have attempted to start a band but failed, I then put rock music on the shelf and switched to Hip-Hop/R&B which was a great learning experience and a decent success. I grew tired of that format of music and wanted to give the songs i wrote on my guitar oh so many years ago another chance. By good graces, I met my band members now, and after 2 years of working together, we’ve released music and play many shows, finally living that dream I had as a 16 year old boy.
Those songs are finally becoming real and the story is soon to be sold, so I wouldn’t change anything about my journey.
I learned a lot by failing, growing up and meeting new people. Without those experiences I wouldn’t have been able to add a new depth to the music that’s there now. I’m thankful for what’s happened and what has yet to come.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For those of you who have never heard about me at all, my origin starts like others, a tale of heartbreak born in young love. A tragic end to my relationship sent me in a creative spiral, the heartbreak becoming my muse and inspiration to inspire others going through similar situations. For myself, music was a cure to hard times, so naturally I would like to return the favor. Our songs being tales of love and growing through the ages, are the epitome of my life for the last 10 years, and I hope they bring you all some level of comfort, joy, and nostalgia.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I believe there are roles unique to each person in life, many times we are taught that there’s a straight line we should walk to live a fulfilled life but I’ve always wanted to challenge that thought. By taking that chance to be a creative I have found my calling and now live a fulfilling life not because of the “dreamy” end goal but by walking the path alone. It truly is something special as well to see something that was only at first a thought become something real that can be loved and shared by others.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think there’s this common misconception that artists these days have to follow trends or cater to certain crowds to find success. In reality I’ve found that’s it’s always best to be your most authentic self as an artist. People did not become legendary artists by following trends, in fact they were often times the first to do what they’re remembered for. Create a lot of whatever it is you do, promote it well and never give up. If you follow this it may take a while to even get close to where you want to be but you’ll be better for it because you stayed true to what you wanted to create and you’ll be praised for that in the end.
