We recently connected with Ash Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ash , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I was thrown into the spotlight was at a friends’ wedding. The ceremony was beautiful. Everything seemed to be going well. Then the emcee did not show. The bride was distraught and we tried to calm her down. She turned to me and asked if I would handle the emcee duties. It caught me off guard. I was there to enjoy the festivities. Not to work. But my friend was desperate to have me pick up the ranks so I did. It was by no means perfect! Lol. I mispronounced names, missed cues and got timing wrong. As chaotic as it seemed in the moment, I was actually enjoying myself. In that moment I knew that it was something I would excel in. My previous work as an announcer helped tremendously also.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn taking advice from others less qualified than me. After the passing of my mom, I went on this awkward journey of finding my voice. The problem was I had a lot of people that would put their insecurities on me to prevent me from being great. They saw my potential. Unfortunately I did not. So I spent many years around people that did not mean me any good. It took me falling on my face several times to come to the conclusion that the people I had around me were sabotaging me.
Always remember, they cannot lead you somewhere they’ve NEVER been. It’s just not possible. If they don’t have the knowledge or experience they certainly cannot help you become a success. They’re playing a guessing game with your life and that is a dangerous situation. Once I was enlightened I got away from all those toxic people. My life is SO much better for it!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of this creative path is being in control of my craft. I set the tone. I am the creator, director, editor, marketer and promoter. I am THE one woman show! I’m fortunate enough to have the most amazing people support me in all aspects of my company. They make sure I don’t burn out. I was burning the candle at both ends at one point and it did not end well. Being in control of my narrative makes all the difference.
