We recently connected with Asé Selah and have shared our conversation below.
Asé, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The moment I experienced an epiphany that I wanted to pursue art professionally was when I searched within myself the reasons I felt the need to create everyday. I’ve always had the interest in art.. I was the student in classroom doodling in the blank spaces on the class work assignments. Not only did I have my own internal drive. I also experienced support from outer sources. These were the initial things that motivated me to take my art, my visions and my brand seriously.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Asé Selah (ah-shay, Seh-la). It means to speak things into existence and so shall it be. It’s a manifestation. My name is a glimpse into one of my core values which is being intentional. I’m a painter, curator and visionary. After working with brands and start up companies I learned the logistics of business and marketing. I found interest in the moving parts that happen behind the scenes of advertisement and product development. This shifted my mindset to establish myself and my work as a brand. My works consists of paintings, sculptures, murals, curated art exhibitions, and of course merchandising. As a visionary I problem solve with my clients to help bring their vision to life or birth a fresh creative perspective to their ideas. I’m mostly proud when my vision aligns with the organizations goals. In regards to my paintings and creative works I’m elated when my works connect with the buyer where it evokes emotion. “Art should make you feel something.” My work is an examination of emotion and associations in society.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I would say that NFTs are the future but it’s not, it’s the now. As an artist there may be moments where a buyer does not have the funds to afford you work works. There can also be times where you sell out of merchandise. NFTs provide a record of authenticity and ownership held and verifiable on the blockchain. They’ve fashioned a new market to create wealth, with high growth potential. This an amazing way to gain generational wealth not only for the artist but for the buyers at a less expensive rate potentially.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
At this moment in my creative journey what’s been driving me lately is my my merchandising roll out strategy. I’ve made the decision that 2022 was the year to release my merch after numerous inquiries from my supporters. The demand pushed me. My passion for crypto and the NFT market has also pushed me because I see and understand that this is the solution to generational wealth that the world has not seen before. I’ve also been super excited about my exhibition at Lowe Mille in Huntsville Alabama in summer 2023. This will be my largest exhibition to date equipped will interactive paintings and sculptures. I’ll also be having my summer collection of my clothing brand “The Curated Gallery” releasing in the exhibition opening. I’m looking forward to all of these projects.
