We were lucky to catch up with Arzell Roulette recently and have shared our conversation below.
Arzell, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
One day I was out and about. And this lady came up to me and ask me if I had watch this particular show she started describing the show. So I took it upon myself to look up the show and watched three episodes and I understand who she was talking about. She said I reminded her of a character in the show, and I knew exactly who she was talking about. Nova is also an astronomic term given to bright stars that appear suddenly in the sky and release powerful energy!! I picked that name because it represents me and who I am.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Arzell Roulette is a professional, published, high fashion, runway model, runway coach pose coach host, spokes, model, book author, and CEO of NovaRoo productions. She got into modeling in 2018 although Modeling was never her passion, she always wanted to be a police officer. She likes to help people in any way she can or at least try to find out a solution to the problem. She’s lived a very difficult life in her time of her modeling career personal life in every day living she started her modeling career in 2018 where she signed up with this agency who found her in Cleveland Ohio and she thought to give it a try she went to audition and thinks sounded great so she took the chance she came out of pocket $5000 to go compete in competitions in New York City and it was all for nothing during that time with that agency, she did not receive not one call not one interview not one fashion show just photo shoots and it was only one she spent so much of her time driving back-and-forth from Columbus Ohio. That’s where she’s from just to take acting, classes, improv, etc. to go nowhere , she shortly realize that something was wrong and canceled her contract with that agency that was at school later she found out everything came crashing all at once down to her personal life she became homeless, raped and attacked. Also trying to figure out where she’s going after her divorce yes, she married very young. She married her high school sweetheart they were together for a total of 13 years and things ended in 2023 divorce was finalized , in that trying time it was one of the most learning lessons that I went through even after my attack thinking about suicide, I didn’t met my mentor Delories tahini who saved my life, and I am forever grateful for her, and I am glad and blessed to have her in my life. She is always there for me. No matter time or day or night. All I have to do is pick up the phone , she is the best mentor that anyone could have because she keeps it real and she is very honest with all of her mentees and shortly after taking her class I started to see life in a different light. I got back out to Modeling I came across a flyer for Ohio fashion week so I filled it out, paid my deposit and that was the first show that I did and I had no idea what I was doing because I’ve never done a fashion show and I told the lady that was directing the show turns out I did really great and a few months later she wanted to sign me as her model so I was skeptical because of what happened with the previous school that I was with so then I did my research on her and everything checked out. I was with her for five years. Build a name for myself in contract ended I moved to Atlanta Georgia to pursue my career further I was able to get in some of the top shows here in Atlanta Georgia. I walked in Atlanta fashion week Indy fashion show just to name a few things with very well for and then I noticed the industry is different here. I am 511 thin and I am not a Georgia peach she laughs. I started hosting red carpet events with In Da House Media who I met at the ATL Hottest awards as I was nominated, ATL Hottest female model and from there I’ve been doing red carpet events getting into some Acting and started my production company which is a company that helps build brands with models the designers in a competition form to get to the runway. There’s only one way to the runway and it’s hard work dedication and consistency during the trying times of your life. You have to keep going and surround yourself with positive people along my journey. I’ve met the Dejuan Brooks he is such an amazing person. With such great spirit, I am grateful to have him in my life. Support systems are very gray and black for me because you would think family would be there to support you but sometimes it’s not family that support you as a friend or coworker anyone that has a vision rather they see it or not I used to think that you need all of this support in reality. All you need is yourself and one supporter, and you will be surprised how far you can go never give up on your dreams and Maya Angelo always say nothing will work, unless you do
How did you build your audience on social media?
Being in the 21st-century social media is like the go to I started building my brand in 2018, so Contant is everything post post post even if nobody likes it still post you’re not doing it for the likes you’re doing it to build your name. Keep your social media names all the same do not have all these accounts with different names. It will be hard to follow you keep your social media names the same so you are easy to find because no matter what they will see it and they will see you
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I was homeless during my Modeling joining, I realize that in life are you really have is yourself and once you give up you gave up on yourself that is a hard pill to swallow. It is very discouraging. Because here a few months ago, you had all these friends, then you were hanging out and then life suddenly takes a turn and then you realize and you look up and you have to sister self me being homeless living out in my car showed me to have discipline, and to be grateful for whatever it is big or small to always be grateful because in a second your life can change. So no matter big or small any opportunity I have I am appreciative of the opportunity. I tell myself and anyone that will listen that once God breaks you down, you look at life differently, so I am forever humble, and grateful for all the bad that I went through because it made me who I am today.
