We were lucky to catch up with Arvilla Beckworth recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Arvilla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to help women, specifically single moms reach their full potential by reclaiming their time, discovering their purpose, and going after their dreams.
I spent my early twenties being a single mom while hiding an abusive relationship. I endured that storm for seven years before gaining the resources and confidence to leave. With support from my family, church, and counseling, I began the challenging process of redefining my purpose and getting my life together.
Through trials and tribulations, I have gained the wisdom and skills to help other women take life’s challenges and turn them into new opportunities in life. I believe we all deserve a second chance to do life right. No matter your setback, Arvilla offers the guidance and follow-up needed to succeed. My love for helping women has blossomed into my motivational podcast, “A second chance at life.” A podcast that inspires women to push beyond their past beliefs and look forward to a better opportunity in life.

Arvilla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
By day I am an over-the-road truck driver with my husband. By night I am the founder of AB Personal Development Firm, a coach, motivational speaker, author, planner, and podcast host.
I got into the business of personal development because I believe we should never stop learning. As the world evolves, we should be growing too, but at a certain time in my life, I lost myself and vowed never to go back down that path again.
That is why a second chance at life is so personal to me! God was giving me another chance to do life better.
My clients describe me as patient, understanding, and committed to helping them reach their goals. My ability to hold them accountable, break down big goals into achievable goals, and keep them on track gives them the confidence they need to keep pushing.
I noticed a lot of my clients needed help with life skills like money management, time management, and organization, so I helped them by creating new habits to improve their life.
Currently, I provide 1:1 and group coaching.
The thing that I am most proud of is that I kept pushing even when all odds were against me—setback after setback (abusive relationship, low self-esteem, bankruptcy, evictions). You can see where it would have been easy to give up.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
My side hustle started from something I was already doing. My family and friends would come to me to get help on certain things. What came easy to me was hard for them, so I gladly helped.
In the beginning, I used to feel bad for charging people because I had been doing it for free for so long. Who knew I could make money from doing something that I enjoyed and didn’t have to spend a lot of time on it? When I started to see the potential earnings I could make, I began to take it a little more seriously and got a business coach to get started.
I started small and used what I had, a laptop and a cell phone. I didn’t want to go into debt before the business started, so I had to think smart. Then I got EIN, LLC, and a business bank account.
My goal is to take this side hustle and make it a full-time business. As of today, I still work my day job and use the money to fund my business.
One piece of advice I would like to give….when turning your side hustle into a full-time job, do not quit your day job until your side hustle can replace your total income.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Some books that have helped me on my entrepreneurial journey are The Proximity Principal by Kenneth Coleman, Business Boutique by Christy Wright, and Organize Now: Your Money, Business, and Career by Jennifer Ford Berry. I also invest in classes/courses that help me improve my business.
