We recently connected with ARUNITA GHOSH and have shared our conversation below.
ARUNITA, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
Makeup is an form of art and I am a creative artist. I believe you cannot pour from an empty cup , and my idea of refilling my cup is vacation. “Relax, Recharge and Reflect” that’s my mantra . Recreational travel may increase creativity by relieving workers from stress, providing diversifying experiences and increasing positive emotions. Consequently, vacations may boost creativity, apparent in a greater variety (flexibility) and originality of ideas after work resumption.
So definitely I do take vacations .
ARUNITA, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The idea behind Makeup By Arunita came from a girl ( myself few years back or my younger version) who is very insecure of her looks to make this more worse my wedding day makeup was the worst experience. As a makeup artist, I have the power to make someone beautiful. When my clients see them in the mirror after final touch the smile that I spot on their face is priceless. Yes, you can put a smile on someone’s face, you can make someone beautiful and confident. You can impact someone’s life.
I am proud of myself. I am versatile in my skills. From bridal to prom , theatrical, pageant makeup, movie makeup I do all .But I love editorial makeup …in simple terms
editorial beauty is hair and makeup which you will not necessarily see day to day. Stripping back from the world of commercial beauty, when the key purpose is to sell, editorial requires thinking outside of the box and being conceptual. And as a artist I am all in for imagination creative out of the box .
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
No money to start is no joke …. I started my home studio as mostly my part of job requires traveling but I do take clients in my home studio too . There was no as such initial capital. When I started first my kit was a tiny little thing. Products that are necessary not much options. Now I carry a huge luggage since you never know what you are going to have to do on a job,
I am still building my business and the struggle is REAL.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media is a great place for makeup artists to find new customers, especially image and video-based channels like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. The reason is that your customers most likely spend most of their downtime on their phones scrolling through these platforms. For me it was definitely Facebook and Instagram.
