We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Arty Steward-Temple a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Arty, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I decided at a very young age I wanted to work in the arts professionally. I was inspired by all the movies and TV Shows I grew up watching, and was driven to make something just as amazing when I was older. I was surrounded by music as well, and felt drawn to it.
I started playing instruments and would always watch my dad make his own music.
I thought it was beautiful being able to create something from nothing. Now I’m taking the steps necessary towards my goals!
Arty, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well to start off, my name is Arty and I am continuing my journey into the creative industry! For the last 5 years or so I have been taking opportunity after opportunity to grow my knowledge in art and music. Luckily, I was able to meet some incredible people to keep me inspired and motivated. During these years I have put my time and skills towards an original story, called Far From Known. A story about how our experiences make us who we are. It’s been a long process, but I am now reaching the final stages of writing it! I hope to make it into an animated series one day!
I also hope I can find and bring a lovely group of people together to help me make that happen.
I also want to help others with their ideas! Whether it be in big or small ways, I want to help others create in any way I can!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Being able to see how far animation has come throughout my childhood has definitely impacted how I look at my work. Growing up I watched movies and shows without even thinking about the effort that goes into them. How many people that have to work together on one thing to make it work. I always just saw the beautiful product. But now as I learn more, I realize how incredibly it actually is, that we live in a time where so much creativity is able to be shared. I do have to mention the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, because that movie alone sparked an inspiration that started my whole artistic journey.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe that society should start to consider it an actual profession that is possible to pursue. It is hard to be creative when you are constantly stressed about living and making enough money. Most artist struggle at first if they do not have connections or opportunity. It is difficult to find that support. So I think that in order to create a ecosystem where creatives can thrive, there needs to be far more opportunities available to anyone, everywhere!
