We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Arturo G. Lozano. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Arturo below.
Hi Arturo, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I realized that I wanted to pursue a professional career in the arts, after working for 2 plus years in sports broadcasting and tv news. I found a passion in storytelling and began shooting short films with my friends, with no experience and very little technical knowledge. I worked in many shoots during my college years, and also took some classes in cinematography, screenwriting, film production, film directing, etc. then i spent a while doing music videos, and when I directed “The Last Drop”, my latest short film, at the very last day of shooting (we shot for two weeks) I returned home after driving maybe 160 miles that day, I felt an incredible sense of satisfaction and happiness, also I felt tickles all around and joy for being able to wrap a project up, that was so ambitious.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a film director, producer and writer. I majored in economics and minored in film production, with that being said I have more than 5 years of experience working in media, between radio, live tv and film. I began my career in media as a sports anchor and reporter at Telemundo Corpus Christi, where i worked for two consecutive summers. During this time, I also had a sports talk show “Tiempo Extra” at TEC Sounds Radio 94.9 in Monterrey, MX. At the time we were the show with the highest rating, just behind the institutional news. During my time at TEC Sounds Radio, I also collaborated closely with the Dallas Cowboys, designing spots for the commercial breaks for all the partner radio stations in Mexico. I began directing student short films in 2018, after leaving Tec Sounds Radio, because I felt dissatisfied in broadcasting and didn’t really see myself doing broadcasting forever; so I turned into a film director / producer. In 2020, I directed my first award nominated short film “Más Allá del Rojo”, which was part of the official selection of the National Arts and Culture Festival organized by ITESM. On 2022, I directed my biggest short film to this date “La Última Gota”, which depicted my hometown’s water crisis, through a narrative film set in a dystopian society without water. After finishing the principal photography, I accepted a job at Braven Films, where I was the assistant to Ms. Frida Torresblanco, academy award winning producer; I also worked as a production coordinator for a documentary about the life of Mauricio Macri, ex president of Argentina. After wrapping up this project, I switched into residential real estate sales and rentals in New York City, field where I have been working and thriving for the last two years, in part I attribute my success to my filmmaking ability, and my storytelling, which I try to tell through my lenses when marketing properties. One of the advantages of working as a real estate agent, is the flexibility of time; for example last year I was able to travel for a month in Germany; country where I did the European premiere for “The Last Drop” within Natourale 24, the largest festival about nature films in Europe. The short I directed was nominated for the best nature short film as well. I am currently in the process of developing 3 feature films (1 is already written) and two limited series. I’m looking into partnerships within the USA and my network and fiscal incentives in the Dominican Republic to within the next three years be able to fully fund and complete my first feature “Lemuria”. Apart from writing and planning new projects, I have also recently been working as a creative consultant for film/tv projects.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think the biggest story of resilience would be the whole process of making The Last Drop a reality. Everything failed, like we had a kickstarter and nobody supported us, we did not have water on set, we did not have enough money, etc. I felt a very low low when the city festival of Monterrey did not include the film in their official selection, given that it was significant to the city. I think the biggest resilience creatively was finishing the project and finding the opportunities that made us able to showcase the movie in Monterrey, Mexico; New York City and Spain coming up.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, I am a creator type, a projector. I like to make movies, but I rarely watch movies. My goal is to make my first feature and be able to continue directing my own stories
