We were lucky to catch up with Artie Terra recently and have shared our conversation below.
Artie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
As an introverted artist, communication with humans is not my strong suit. I would rather speak through art. I hope to inspire a new way of looking at the world around us through fun positive views of the body and equality instead of shameful ones. My mission is to bring a new way of thinking about our bodies and what self love means in the future.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My Name is Artie and I make Adult art under the name Super Apple Pie, I’ve always loved making art but never felt confident enough to share it with the world until covid hit. During quarantine I started painting yonis and penises on twitch and got such a positive response that it gave me the confidence boost I needed to create a business and keep making art from my soul. Since then I have been able to have a booth at pride, art events, and have had my art work shown in galleries and stores. I have even had the chance to put together my own show ( pink is for everyone) which was such a proud moment for me. As a shy person having a community behind me and supporting me while getting to meet and support other talented artist really means the world. I hope my art provokes people to think about body positivity, equality and self love. I have so much love for what I do and I want to share that joy through my artwork with all of you.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
As a small business owner with introverted and shy tendency’s, I have found that social media has been a big component of making my artwork a success. From doing live streams to making instagram and tik-tok content, the exposure I get from the comfort of my art studio is like nothing we have seen in marketing in the passed. There is still a lot of planning and effort that goes into content creation behind the scenes, but I love the kind of experimental marketing and freedom content creation give me.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I think my artwork as a whole is all about unlearning societal expectations. From what self love mean to us as individuals, what is equality, what becoming an adult women means and finding my voice. I spent most of my 20 going through the motions of living and now in my 30 through my artwork I get to live a life of passion.
