We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Art Garza. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Arturo below.
Art, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I started learning graphic design from the moment I was old enough to pick up a pencil. I’ve always been the guy that could draw so if it was shirts, a flyer, logo I was called upon. If I didn’t know how to do the task I YouTubed it, I did do college but friends and the internet were the key for myself. If I could do it again I’d accept technology sooner not sticking to a particular software or mindset and being open. Also allowing others in, accepting that there are better skilled people and that they can help bring you along will only help you get to your goal sooner.

Arturo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am kind of like a Swiss Army knife. I do graphic design, branding, photo/ video, some editing of both, and I’m learning website development along with project management. I’m a huge believe that every is creative and that I bring Godly solutions to creative problems. A big reason why I’m where I’m at is my faith which I’m constantly developing in which builds discipline and structure that I need to continue in my crafts. Besides doing my side work I worked at a church (The Family Church) for years and made a huge leap of faith by joining this job at a local marketing firm RGVision Media. Depending on my season is what I’m doing with my company TheArtPack which is my side work. At the moment it’s mainly shirt designs but at times I have done, branding and photography. I think what sets me apart is that I love helping people I’ve taken free jobs just so someone’s business can go to the next level that can’t afford to invest in themselves from the marketing standpoint.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I’m currently reading Creativity, Inc. by Ed Catmull. It’s the story of Pixar and I believe it’s a great book. To see how Pixar handles organization and their story in general is great. Another book would obviously be the Bible. Even if you aren’t religious there are great concepts you can learn about sewing and reaping, discipline and adversity.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing a happy client. To be able to bring someone’s thought to life is so rewarding to me.
