Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Arron Lloyd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Arron , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I initially wanted to be a doctor and developed a love for music at an early age. My grandparents would introduce me to people like James Brown, Earth Wind & Fire, Louis Armstrong, Etta James etc so I started learning instruments.
One year one of my music teachers Ms. Patterson let the class know we would be putting up a Thanksgiving play. She asked “who wants to play the lead?” I looked left, I looked right and no one was volunteering and so I did. It started as just having fun, not having to go home and do homework right away to really enjoying it.
When I was in 6th grade my school took us on a field trip to a high school production (which I would later attend) of student written, directed and performed plays about challenges plaguing the inner city. Things like gang violence, teen pregnancy, stds, depression and was essentially a peer education program through the arts. I told myself I would like to be involved.
I auditioned when I got to high school and ended up performing, directing and writing plays for the youth to experience the same way I did. Now acting wasn’t just fun, it was purpose driven.
As applying for colleges came about I dreaded thinking of a life without acting. I couldn’t imagine it and still had and have a practical view about the entertainment industry. And what I mean by that is, I understood that it is a challenging industry to “make” it in. I went back and forth about it and decided I would audition for one college arts program and if I got in I would take that as God’s stamp of approval that the arts was the path for me.
I auditioned for one school (probably to this day one of the most nerve wracking auditions I’ve ever had) and I got into Uconn’s BFA program. Which is a BRILLIANT program by the way. The foundations of my artistry and craft came from the faculty and peers I encountered while there. I’ve been on this journey ever since.
Arron , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started acting from enjoyment until it became purpose driven when I discovered the impact and changes it made in my own life and the positive impact it could have in others as well.
Whether on stage, set or off pretty much everything I do today is purpose driven. I like to live my life and invest my time intentionally.
As an actor I want to tell impactful stories.
My company AuditionTrackers.com was born out of a need I found himself having to progress in my career that I then wanted to expand for other actors. You know how an artistic career is unpredictable? AuditionTrackers helps professional actors stay organized and efficient so that they can focus on what matters in their career, we provide streamlined processes, systems and admin work to track auditions and trends in your career so that you can be more effective in what actors do best, act and have strategy behind it so you can do more of it.
I was born in the inner city in a single mother household, and have an appreciation for what it takes to create the life you deserve. There are gaps that prevent a lot of very talented people from sharing their gift with the world. Their psychology and or self image or not having the finances to give their dreams and career all that they have. Because perhaps you are, or know someone who wants more out of life and time after time again doubt, hesitation, anxiety, fear of failure, fear of success and other thieves of dreams prevent you from doing the things you intellectually know you need to do to make your dream a reality. I’ve been there too! As an certified elite neuroencoding specialist, I help people encode themselves to default to their best, I currently mentor & empowers both creatives and inner city communities to create and embody sustainable approaches to living a purposeful life, generating generational wealth & achieving their dreams.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I went from living in Harlem having bedbugs and having to move out, to living in the Bronx with no bed; having to sleep on the floor. I slept on the floor for so long in awkward positions that one night I felt something click in my back and I went to the emergency room to make sure everything was ok.
I used to have to collect change from the house and streets to be able to roll up a bunch of coins to exchange for cash at the bank to bring to cashiers so I didn’t have to dump change on them for a loaf of bread.
I’ve collected bottles and had to commute 2 hours each way to work a job and still be scraping to get by.
My father died of gun violence when I was one and I’ve experienced other things in my life that I considered “normal” because of my environment.
While it has built character, for sure, the real resiliency is understanding, through growth and mentorship that there are better ways that you not only deserve but that your higher self is calling you to bring to life.
