Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to ArrielElyse Green. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
ArrielElyse , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
My hero is my Mama. She is my hero because I remember her being so strong. My mama went through a lot in the 60 years that she had on this earth and I never remember hearing her complain about anything. She was a neonatal intensive care nurse so she had the heart of gold and a natural instinct to help people. She always had a story or a saying that I didn’t appreciate while she was here but now I can recall those stories and sayings so well. I call them, “mama-ism’s”. She was and will always be my hero because of all the advice she gave, all the hugs, all the tough love and her true faith in God. One thing my mama used to say was,”Never allow fear to keep you from doing what you are supposed to do”. This saying has helped me through a lot of fearful moments in life. I thank my mama for her tenacity, courage, strength and faith in God. Forever my hero, forever in my heart!! I love you mama!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello,
I am a licensed cosmetologist, educator and business owner. I have been in the beauty industry for just about 17 years. I began my career in 2006 after I graduated from Pivot Point International Academy in Evanston, Il. I started working at Regis Corporate Salon in Joliet,Il., this was my first salon job. I worked there for 6 years learning and growing myself as a stylist. At about 4 years into my career I went back to school to get my cosmetology instructors license, I attended Empire Beauty School and graduated in 2011. I decided I wanted more from my career so I challenged myself to begin booth renting, I rented a booth at a Salon named Sparx Hair Studio in Shorewood, Il. I spent about 8 years working there. While booth renting I also taught cosmetology school for about 4 years.. I continued in booth renting and now suite renting where I own and operate my own business ArrielElyse&Co. where I specialize in color, extensions and healthy hair care. In 2019 I began working for Matrix as an Artistic Educator. I am now a National Educator for Matrix and I travel around the nation teaching classes about Matrix products and new trends. Working as a National Educator has been my most rewarding moment in my career outside of owning my business. Matrix has given me so many opportunities and has helped me grow and develop into the stylist I am today. I have been able to live out my real life dreams while working for Matrix. I have had the chance to work behind the scenes for hair shows and events, I have taught virtual national trainings, live trainings and been able to work with some celebrity stylist that I follow and look up to. This industry is fun and creative and is all in what you make of it. Quitting isn’t an option so I put my feet to the pavement and begin running. I can not wait to see what else this industry has in store for me.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I am currently in a pivotal point in my career and life. I just recently got divorced (by the way this is congratulations!!) so I am now in the position where I have to do everything financially for myself including raising my daughter. This life change has not slowed me down in my career owning my business and traveling for Matrix but it has taught me some valuable lessons. This life changing event has made me realize how strong I am and how much I do not need to depend on another person to take care of me, God is doing that for me. It has also given me more self confidence knowing that not matter what I am still going to chase my dreams and I will make it to those dreams. Just like my mama told me,”Never let fear keep you from doing what you are supposed to do”!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation in the beauty industry is simply showing up, showing out and mastering my craft. Being present in the moment whether it be with my clients in my salon or in the field working for Matrix. When you show up and allow people to see your true authentic self they usually remember you and your talents and it sets a mark on them. So, show up, be you, have fun and master your craft!
