We were lucky to catch up with Arpita Saha recently and have shared our conversation below.
Arpita, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
Instagram for me was a creative outlet. Being a full-time working professional and a proud mom of a 12-year-old – life is hectic. My husband created theknowndestination page to share travel stories as we both love travelling. However, during Covid we were stuck at home over the weekends and that is when I took the reins of the page. My page is all about simple fashion and travel. My page now has over 15K followers and I have collaborated with multiple brands. As mentioned earlier this is not my full time job, I do it as I love blogging and traveling and what better way to share your love with others.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi , I am Arpita Saha. I was born and raised in India and moved to the US in 2014. I lived in Connecticut, Phoenix, and finally settled in Chicago. I am a digital creator, and my content is mainly related to travel and simple fashion. I am into IT and have a full-time job. Our Instagram account Theknowndestination started with the intent to share my love for traveling and simple affordable fashion. My husband–who is also in IT– and my daughter are my biggest cheerleaders. I don’t use any professional photographers because my husband takes all the photos and videos. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I firmly believe nothing happens overnight. It is all about patience and doing what you love to do. You need to understand what your viewers want to see and hear when they visit your page. Call it out explicitly.
It is more about resonating with your audience and setting the correct tone.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A lot went on while planning to shift to the USA. My daughter was just 2.5 years old, and I was skeptical if I should be moving here and leaving my family in India. I had to switch jobs, adjust to a new environment, and new lifestyle, and build new friends – it was not easy but everything worked out eventually.
