We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Arpan Karki a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Arpan, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
While my band hasn’t achieved full-time earnings from our creative work yet, our journey spans nine years, approaching our tenth. It’s been a gradual process, starting with challenges and evolving through various exposures and opportunities. We’re focusing on enhancing our production and marketing efforts to increase our visibility and hopefully, accelerate our progress towards sustainable income.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We’re a heavy rock/metal band hailing from the vibrant city of Long Beach. What sets us apart is our unique blend of Nepali culture infused with Western-style music. Our journey began with a group of Nepali immigrants passionate about music, weaving together our cultural roots with our love for rock and metal.
In terms of our offerings, we provide high-energy performances and original compositions that reflect our diverse influences. Through our music, we aim to not only entertain but also to bridge cultural gaps and showcase the richness of Nepali heritage within the context of heavy rock music.
One thing we’re particularly proud of is our ability to create a sonic experience that resonates with audiences from all walks of life. Whether you’re a metal enthusiast or simply curious about different musical cultures, our performances promise to leave a lasting impression.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, we want them to know that we’re more than just a band – we’re a cultural movement. Through our music, we strive to break barriers, inspire unity, and celebrate diversity. We invite everyone to join us on this exhilarating journey as we continue to push the boundaries of heavy rock music.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the ability to express myself authentically and connect with others on a deeper level through my work. Whether it’s evoking emotions, sparking conversations, or simply bringing joy to someone’s day, knowing that my creativity has the power to make a positive impact is incredibly fulfilling. There’s a sense of freedom and fulfillment in being able to channel my thoughts, feelings, and experiences into something tangible that resonates with others.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Certainly. One memorable moment that showcases my resilience is when I faced a series of rejections early in my career. Despite pouring my heart and soul into my work, I encountered numerous setbacks and disappointments. However, instead of letting these obstacles deter me, I used them as fuel to push myself even harder. I persisted through the challenges, continuously refining my craft and seeking out new opportunities. Eventually, my perseverance paid off when I landed a significant opportunity that opened doors to further success. This experience taught me the importance of resilience and reminded me that setbacks are often just stepping stones on the path to achievement.
