We were lucky to catch up with Arnold Casavant recently and have shared our conversation below.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Following four years in the military (67 thru 71) I was honorably discharged. I enrolled in Rhode Island Junior College and at the age of 24 took my first drawing course. That led to my transferring to U Mass Dartmouth where I was accepted as an Art Education major. Following graduation, with distinction, I began a career as an art educator in the town of Easton Massachusetts. I served as an art teacher/ department chair for thirty years until my retirement in 2005. During that time, I also taught painting courses through Northeastern University’s Graduate Institute for Professional Development. It was during the last years of teaching that I began to focus on developing as a full-time artist/ painter. Thus, during the past 18 years I’ve shown my work in a number of galleries and traveled in and out of the country painting on location. I was represented by a gallery in Elbow Key in the Bahamas, Pearl Street Gallery in Chelsea, Ma. Gallery 31 in Orleans, MA. True Grit Gallery in Middleboro, Ma. and presently NOA Gallery in Groton, Ma, and Main Street Gallery in Falmouth. MA. For the past 12 years I’ve maintained a gallery/studio in the SoWa Artist guild in Boston. SoWa is one of the premiere artist communities in the country and the hub of Boston’s Arts Community. I continue to give demonstrations and workshops. I presently live on Admiral’s Hill in Chelsea Ma. a stone’s throw from downtown Boston.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I get the most joy out of helping, in any way I can, others on their creative journey. That has led to meeting many wonderful people who I now consider friends. Staying in touch with former students through social media is icing on the cake.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The pursuit of trying to continue to develop as a painter is a constant driving force. There is no end to this journey.
