We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Armando Nieto. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Armando below.
Alright, Armando thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
As an illustrator, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is witnessing the transformative power of art. It’s the profound connection that forms between my work and the emotions it evokes in others. There’s a unique joy in knowing that a single stroke of a brush or a carefully chosen color palette can resonate with someone on a personal level, eliciting emotions, memories, or even sparking new perspectives. It’s the ability to capture a fleeting moment, an idea, or a story and translate it into a visual form that can be understood universally. This, to me, is the heart of what makes being an artist so fulfilling – the opportunity to create something that resonates deeply, transcending barriers and leaving a lasting impact on people’s lives.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My artistic journey began during my childhood, crafting small clay sculptures and designing characters, spaceships, and monsters for imaginative adventures in imaginary worlds. I recall spending hours sculpting a variety of items, both from the realms of imagination and the real world. As I matured, my eagerness to expand my artistic skills grew, pushing me to explore techniques such as graphite pencils, watercolor, art markers, acrylics, charcoal, and colored pencils, among other traditional methods. As the years passed, my fascination with art deepened. After dedicating a period of my life to studying engineering, I realized that I wanted to transform my art into my profession. This realization prompted me to pursue a formal education in Illustration. I primarily focus on creating captivating and realistic images, specializing in landscape, environment, and portraiture illustrations. My goal is to infuse emotions into my artwork and capture the essence of the subject matter. I have been involved in a range of projects, including illustrating a fiction book, contributing to a children’s coloring book, and crafting portraits for various clients. More recently, I’ve embarked on a freelance venture, producing art for sale as stickers and other merchandise featuring my original designs.
Additionally, I am currently engaged in mural projects. I am working on a mural for a restaurant, aiming to enhance its ambiance through art. Furthermore, I am collaborating with my colleague, Fabiola Nunez, on a mural project for an Airbnb. Our objective is to elevate the house’s decoration and provide a pleasant experience for visitors during their stay.
What sets me apart from others is my consistent effort to learn new methods to enhance my art. I am always seeking to acquire fresh techniques and improve the quality of my work. I firmly believe that every artist should develop a methodology for creating their illustrations. This approach not only streamlines my work process but also aids me in achieving the narrative I aspire to convey through my illustrations.
I take pride in all the achievements I have accomplished thus far and in how I’ve managed to overcome the challenges I’ve encountered along my artistic journey. It has been a path filled with difficulties, but gradually, I am progressing toward realizing my goal of becoming a fully successful artist. For those who wish to follow my path, I intend to inspire and motivate individuals to embrace their creativity and gain recognition through my art.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is witnessing how deeply my illustrations resonate with people. It’s satisfying to observe how my art triggers emotions within my audience. Sometimes, I sense that my talent inspires people, and they recognize the effort and dedication poured into my art. This recognition fuels my belief that I’m making a significant impact on those who appreciate my work, leaving them eagerly anticipating my next creation. Furthermore, I believe this appreciation serves as the spark for improvement, driving me to generate great ideas and continue doing what I love most.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My primary goal in my creative journey is to achieve the level of recognition I desire through social media. I aspire to reach as many people as possible with my art and make a meaningful impact on those interested in observing my painting process across various social media platforms. I find joy and satisfaction in experimenting with various artistic techniques, whether it’s playing with colors and textures or exploring different methods to depict my ideas. Additionally, I aim to teach prospective artists some of the techniques I have learned over time. Moreover, I want to push the boundaries of my creative abilities, allowing me to grow as an artist and discover new ways to create art. I believe that pursuing this goal will not only enhance my creativity but also provide a profound sense of accomplishment as I uncover new facets of my creative self.”
