We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Armand Peri a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Armand, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with my first business idea because at the time I was a national-level, competitive bodybuilder, model, and actor without a significant source of primary income. I was also unhappy with working a side job as a dancer and working for many different entertainment companies seeing how they operated, and the issues I experienced, I realized they left a lot of room for improvement. I decided to capitalize on that opportunity and created my own entertainment company. Having this as a second focus and a growing business allowed me to have the lifestyle of a bodybuilder – for example, sustain the diet, provide the time for exercise – and support myself. Given that I initially started the business working for someone else, I used my experience as an employee to build the best possible experience for those working for me and our clients. When I initially started my first company, it was only meant to be a bridge from where I was in my bodybuilding career to ultimate success in that profession. For example, not only to be the very best but also to have a stable and growing income. Although I was very highly ranked, I realized it was less about being the best and more about having the best marketing machine for self-promotion.
Armand, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Based on my experiences as a bodybuilder, actor, and model, I learned how critical marketing is to the success of both individuals and businesses. I grew to love public relations because I started the agency originally just to brand and promote myself. However, I discovered along the way both my passion for the work and the joy of helping others become successful.
What sets us apart from other firms is our passion for our field. Many other public relations firms may over-promise and under-deliver. However, at New Age PR Agency NYC, we aim to identify how we can help you expand your brand and reputation. We dig deep into each client’s business to determine the best communications, growth, and expansion strategy while clearly outlining reasonable goals and milestones. Other firms may promise to deliver everything under the sun, but we set realistic expectations with our clients. With limited resources and time, our team of experts has the experience to create the best results and outcomes for our clients. We systematically generate the best solution to each problem while sticking to our core values and principles.
In addition to a passion for our work, people are at the core of the New Age Public Relations Agency. We strongly believe that our team of experts is what drives our sustainability and success in the complicated world of public relations. Our staff meets with every client to understand their needs, and we develop customized solutions and deliver top-tier PR services to meet their goals. As a result, our clients see the measurable impact of our work and see desired outcomes directly aligned with their objectives. Our results are data-driven and measurable and speak for themselves. With our team of strong independent, like-minded individuals, we believe that we are well-positioned to help any brand and company take their business and reputation to the next level. Our staff has specializations in Digital PR, B2B Technology, Integrated Campaigning, Consumer Marketing, Brand Management, Corporate Communications, Digital Marketing, Travel & Leisure, Hospitality Management, and Sports Public Relations.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The following is a story from my journey that illustrates my resilience, which extends to my team. When first working with our key clients, things went smoothly. But inevitably, obstacles will arise when you are starting a new company and particularly with clients, products, and services, which need constant attention. Often, events occur which are out of your direct control. For example, after promoting our organization’s initial success, our competitors became aware of our existence (along with everyone else) and doubled down on their strategies and marketing efforts to make the competition that much tougher. Also, there are competitors that have unscrupulous business practices, such as those creating fake positive reviews or those trying to tarnish their competitors with misinformation. Such nonsense misleads potential clients as to the quality of their service, creates market confusion, and unfortunately often causes inherent mistrust in our industry. These are normal market forces and occurrences, yet they can make sustaining a profitable business really challenging, and some days you’ll want to give up completely. However, these periodic cycles of disruption – which I now recognized as regularly recurring – are used ongoing as catalysts to take New Age PR to the next level. We learn from this disruption and increase how we work for our client’s success, and this often results in pivots as to how we work, in order to create the breakthroughs needed. This keeps us growing and evolving, our clients happy and successful, and helps us maintain our competitive edge at all times. This is the philosophy I apply to my own personal goals as well as to my other businesses.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What I think helped me build my reputation within the market is understanding how critical and intertwined trust and reputation are. While originally promoting myself and my brand, I learned how important reputation is to success, and that to have a great reputation I would need to consistently deliver the best client services and results possible. You need to be completely honest with both yourself and your clients as to what is possible, achievable and should be the area of primary focus. The bottom line is you always have to have integrity: personal integrity, product and service integrity, communications integrity, and integrity in your results. I will personally feel like I’m failing my clients if I don’t at least meet their expectations. The reason we have built the reputation we have is this constant process of level-setting so that over-delivery is continuously doable. Our clients appreciate this transparency and stay with us long-term – we have very little turnover – because this kind of work ethic builds and sustains deep trust.
