Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Arlon Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Arlon, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
My craft and skills that i’ve learned over time was built from me being in many Performing Art Schools and having early access to knowledge and information on the basic techniques and skills in my field of work. My family also exposed me to many things that influenced me artistically.
Knowing what i know now, i could’ve taken more interest in learning for more than one outlet for the information and knowledge instead of just school. It always great to learn many perspectives of what you do because you can apply those things in whatever you’re doing in the future.
The skills that were most essential for me were my dancing abilities. Only because it allows me to tap all the areas of my craft when i’m doing dance related things.
The obstacles that stood in the way of learning more was the access outside of school. I didn’t have the resources to be able to do anything outside of school and my parents were focused on handling their responsibilities as parents but i do know if i had access to more resources and outlets outside of the Performing Art Schools, i would’ve learned way more alot sooner.
Arlon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
How I got into the industry(s) im in was simply from knowing peers who were affiliated with people that were already in the mix so it made it easier. Its always about who you know!!!
I provide creative services such as Writing Producing Engineering and Vocal Production with music related things and Choreographing Styling Directing and Producing with dance or video related things.
The problems i solve for clients or people i work with is helping them bring an idea to life with my creative advisory or expertise. Most people who aren’t creative wants amazing outcomes but dont have a creative mind or ideas. So myself and whoever i may appoint to assist will help bring those things to life for the client.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to adapt in uncomfortable environments or situations which allows me to be more willing to take risks that others wont.
I’m most proud of the journey and building process toward the outcomes everyone is able to see. The work that goes behind the scenes isn’t always exposed so it puts things into perspective and make you appreciate the journey you’re on toward your success.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is being able to create on levels that can change someones life or perspective to do something good for themselves.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
what society can do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem is the level of access and outlets we are able to have within the commuity. We need more platforms to showcase the thriving talent in the community.
