We recently connected with Arlina Roman and have shared our conversation below.
Arlina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I believe positively impacting people’s lives is the true measure of success. My business slogan, “Gain Confidence in Your Brand,” is aimed at entrepreneurs who feel lost and need guidance to establish themselves as experts in their industry. Through branding and social media, I assist them in standing apart from their competitors so that they can make a lasting impression. When I see my clients getting positive feedback or reaching their goals after working with me, that is my purpose and success in my book!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In 2016, I received my BFA in Graphic and Web Design from the Art Institute of Austin. The following year, I began my design career at a local marketing agency, where I learned the ins and outs of brand design. During this time, I also started creating logos for my close family and friends’ businesses as a side hustle. Unfortunately, I was laid off unexpectedly, but I decided to take my side hustle full-time and continue to grow as a designer and entrepreneur. Today, I run my own branding and marketing studio, where I help entrepreneurs build their brands with engaging content and storytelling visuals. If you’re a creative entrepreneur in the beauty, wedding, fashion, or coaching industries looking for help with social media, website design, or branding, feel free to contact me!
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
When I got certified as a digital marketer in January of this year, I wanted to gain some insight and experience in the social media world because branding and marketing go hand in hand. Through a freelance post on LinkedIn, I discovered an opportunity to work with a creative business in New York. My main task is to assist in creating social media posts for their clients in the Hamptons, particularly for real estate agents/brokers featured in publications such as WSJ, AD, and The Hollywood Reporter. I also work with other businesses in the area.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the lessons I had to unlearn was giving my clients multiple logo designs to choose from. I learned this the hard way because some past clients needed more time to decide, resulting in longer project timelines and inconsistent branding. It was a frustrating experience. However, while participating in a mastermind with other brand designers, our coach recommended the one-concept method. This approach helps us establish ourselves as experts and reduces the time spent on a project. After implementing this method, I noticed a significant improvement in my process. I design with more intention and receive fewer revisions.
