We were lucky to catch up with Arielle Sidney recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Arielle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on was my first big brand collaboration for a flower company. They reached out to me so I could create a flower themed outfit to promote their brand. I had been making clothing out of unconventional materials so making a flower outfit was super exiting. It’s still one of my favorite dresses to this day.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
During the start of the pandemic in 2020 I picked up a sewing machine for the first time and started sewing clothes out of grocery store bags. These videos got popular on tiktok but before that I was making fashion videos. As the months went by I started sewing with regular fabric making fun and interesting pieces. Making my own clothes has helped me become more or a fashion maximalist because now I get to make any piece of clothing I want in any color or colors I want it in.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to picture something in your mind then creating it in real life it’s truly the best feeling in the world to be able to touch and wear something that was once an idea.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started posting early 2020 on tiktok. At first I wasn’t sure what tiktok was so I would just post comedy videos with trending sounds then I realized I could also post fashion videos. I did grow a little following with my fashion videos but it wasn’t until the store bag outfit videos that I gained a slightly significant following. After there were no more bag outfit videos my growth rate drastically went down and nothing else I’ve posted has gotten me that same amount of growth. So I’d say just post what you want, forget about the numbers and have fun
