Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Arielle Loupos. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Arielle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started Flower Girl because I was tired of wearing pads and tampons. I started to try a bunch of period underwear from different brands, and while it was definitely a better option, it still didn’t offer the solution I was looking for. I wanted to wear something that was comfortable, sexy and using body-safe materials since these products are worn against the most sensitive parts of the body. Believe it or not I had a really hard time finding a pair that met all of those needs, so I decided to make my own.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My background is in eCommerce and marketing—I’ve spent over a decade helping brands launch and scale online, from small startups to luxury labels. While I’ve loved working with other businesses, I’ve always had a desire to create something of my own, something meaningful that aligned with my values and solved a real problem.
The idea for Flower Girl came from my own frustrations with menstrual products. I’ve always been conscious about what I put in and on my body, and as I started to explore period underwear, I realized that while the concept was better than traditional pads and tampons, the products on the market didn’t quite meet my needs. I wanted something that was comfortable, functional, and non-toxic, but also sexy and empowering—because why shouldn’t period underwear make you feel good, too?
Flower Girl offers women a comfortable, more sustainable alternative for their cycles. Our products are made with body-safe, eco-friendly materials and are designed to support women through all stages of their lives. What sets us apart is our commitment to creating a product that not only works but makes women feel confident and cared for. From our breathable TENCEL™ Modal thongs to our briefs that pair with reusable pads, every detail has been carefully thought through.
I’m proud of how much intention has gone into building this brand—from learning the ins and outs of textiles to testing over 100 iterations of our product to ensure it truly delivers. I’m also committed to manufacturing locally in Los Angeles, where I can be hands-on every step of the way.
What I hope people take away from Flower Girl is that your cycle isn’t something to dread or hide—it’s something to embrace. Our mission is to change the way women feel about their periods by offering products that honor their bodies and their experiences.
For me, Flower Girl is more than a brand—it’s a movement to empower women, spark conversations about menstrual health, and provide safer, more thoughtful period care. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created so far, and I’m excited to continue innovating and expanding to meet the needs of our community.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
I manufacture Flower Girl locally in Los Angeles. When I first started, I had no experience with manufacturing—it was a completely new world for me. I dove headfirst into research, trying to understand the process and learn as much as possible about textiles and product development.
One of the biggest challenges was finding the right vendor. I was determined to work with a local manufacturer so I could be hands-on throughout the process and ensure the highest quality. After a lot of conversations and driving around downtown, I found a partner who not only shared my commitment to sustainability and quality but also had the expertise to bring my vision to life.
The journey has taught me so much about patience and persistence. Manufacturing is rarely a smooth process—there are so many moving parts, from sourcing the perfect materials to perfecting the fit and functionality of the product. I’ve learned that communication is key. Building strong relationships with your manufacturing partners and being clear about your expectations makes all the difference.
Another lesson is that iteration is everything. We went through over 100 prototypes before landing on the final design for Flower Girl. It’s a long process, but every tweak and adjustment gets you closer to a product you’re truly proud of.
Looking back, I’m grateful for the challenges because they’ve shaped the quality and thoughtfulness of our products. Manufacturing isn’t just about producing something—it’s about creating something that aligns with your values and truly serves your customers.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I sell my products on Shopify, and I can’t recommend it enough! It’s an incredible platform that makes launching and running a business so much easier. Shopify offers a ton of flexibility with its plugins and third-party apps, which can support everything from marketing to inventory management.
What I love most is how intuitive it is—it’s user-friendly, even for someone without a tech background. Plus, it gives me full control over my brand’s online presence, allowing me to create a shopping experience that feels uniquely Flower Girl.
