We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ariella Tintle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ariella below.
Ariella, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
So I currently run my own social media page. I focus mostly on Instagram and a bit on Facebook. I find my target market spends the most of their time on those platforms. And when I am consistent with posting on those platforms it’s undeniable how many new client request I get! But choosing to run my own social media is like having a second job. Sometimes it’s fun and I love it, other times it’s stressful and gets put on the end of my todo list.
For a successful post it first needs to be great work but it always performs better when the content is interesting or educational. And that’s where the pre-planning of content comes in.
A good week in social media starts on Monday by planning out my content for the week, then engaging with my followers and other accounts and finally consistently posting each day that week.
The weeks I do this I will end up with multiple new client requests for weeks to come.
Now because I run my own, it’s easy to slack off, so hiring out a social media to save myself the time and stress has always been something I have considered. So I may have to add that to a 2024 goal.
Ariella, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Ariella Tintle and I have been a hairstylist for over 13 years. I originally got into the industry at the age of 20 hoping to be my own boss, and make my own schedule all the while making woman feel beautiful when they look in the mirror.
My love for all things beauty started with a passion for halloween and performing. I love creating themed looks with hair, make up and costumes. Now most days are not filled with theatrical hair and makeup, I consider that my hidden talent and save those skills for special events. My daily client rocks bold reds, sun kissed balayages, or lived-in color; a dimensional look created with their natural hair tones in mind. My goal for my color clients is to have their hair grow out seamlessly and remain healthy weeks after leaving my chair.
I value honesty with my clients and like to get them to be apart of the color process with me. I want to educated them on how to best care for their hair at home while they’re way from my chair.
In recent years, I’ve started to dive into educating other stylists, not only with product lines I believe in, but more so by helping build up younger stylists confidence. Whether it be with their cutting and coloring skills or understanding the business side of our industry. The majority of our industry often lacks the knowledge of how to run a successful business and I want to help give back to teach new stylist what I wish I knew right out of school.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
At the end of 2022 my husband and I relocated to Dallas Texas. And that meant I had to start from nothing. Something I haven’t done since I joined this industry in 2010. I knew rebuilding would be hard and take time. I had no friends or family in Dallas so I knew I would have to rely on my social media presence and a good location and salon to help me rebuild.
What I expected to take closer to a year to achieve a busy schedule, took me less than six months.
I am now 9 months into working in Dallas. And my last 4 months of sales account for 50% of my profit in 2022.
I can not say I did it all own my own. But my main reasons for building so fast came from my presence on social media, finding a salon that already had an established presence in the community and putting in the extra hours of work needed when starting over. Rebuilding my career 13 years later has been one of the more rewarding things I have been able to do.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Instagram hands down has been my best source for new clients. It’s not just about posting though. It’s about being social. The algorithm likes when not only your followers talk to you but when you participate with other accounts, including ones that don’t currently follow you.
I’ve got it figured out that if I have a week coming up with multiple open appointments I can go on to Instagram make a few posts or reels, comment on some local business pages and then communicate with some of my current followers or clients and in a few days I will have 3-4 new client request forms in my inbox. And suddenly that slow week is all filled up.
