We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ariel Monroe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ariel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s go back in time to when you were an intern or apprentice – what’s an interesting story you can share from that stage of your career?
Some of my earliest life training was with my godmother who was a beautician; she did hair, nails, and makeup for a living and was grateful to receive massage and energy from me from a very young age. It’s some of my favorite life experience because she gave me permission to play while also giving me feedback in real time. It was special to have great communication and for me to understand the kinds of discomfort she had from the work that she did. I learned that some parts of the body enjoy very firm pressure and other parts do not and she also encouraged me to try all kinds of tools with her body. This was juxtaposed with her having a marvelous jewelry box that we would organize from time to time; she let me untie and untangle distressed chains and try on some of her favorite shiny things. I learned about being careful with my hands and how to use my whole body ergonomically so that I wouldn’t hurt myself. Our relationship and working with her over time greatly influenced how I operate as a body and energy worker.

Ariel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I believe that alternative wellness found me just as much as I found it. I come from a family of artists, musicians and healthcare professionals and I felt strongly that I wanted to use my upbringing for betterment. I had been working in a bar in Southern New Jersey and felt like I was contributing to people’s problems by enabling with alcohol and distraction and I was craving a healthier lifestyle overall. In 2014, I uprooted myself to Pennsylvania to pursue my passion for body work and energy work, eager to find space in the field of healthcare where able to be creative and have impact. Again, I found myself surrounded by distraction by design working in a casino setting between 2015-2020, as I established Delta E.M. Wellness, LLC. I became a Certified Sound Healer in 2022 after a spiritual inner growth spurt from working at The Four Season’s Crystal-Themed Hotel Spa in Center City, Philadelphia. I am proud of myself for cultivating healthy practices and that I share inspiration, motivation, relaxation, law of attraction, positive psychology, and regular reminders to hydrate, express, and lean into what you are truly passionate about, not to follow the masses.
I’m a Healing Artist, Expressionist, Voice Actor, and Model. Within my alternative holistic business, Delta E.M. Wellness, I engage as a Reiki Master and Reiki Master Teacher; a Licensed Massage Therapist Licensed in NJ and PA; and I’m an Ordained Minister in NJ. In the COVID-19 pandemic, I become an Independent Consultant with Arbonne as I dedicated myself to leading by example with gut health, nutrition, and skincare and a regular personal development regimen. I created a Law of Attraction program that’s free on YouTube called Ariel’s Positive Approach. I recently began leading workshops; doing voice acting and public speaking about my life; and offer Distant Reiki every Sunday, a free 30 minute session for a group at 12pm EST on the final Sunday of the month. I encourage people to think for themselves and to listen to inner guidance over any other voice; I want people to know that they can count on me to care, that they have options and that the universe always has their back.
I was awarded Best Massage in Philadelphia by PhillyMag.com in 2018 bringing Massage, Reiki, and Aromatherapy into people’s homes and to clients’ desired destinations.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud about projecting a future that deals with navigating change and helping people process those changes from the inside out: think CBD!

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Try out lots of environments and jobs when you’re new or just starting out; apply to a couple dozen places and follow up with email within a week of your interview if you really want the job. It helps to have varied skills, to know what you enjoy, to know what you’re not good at, and to meet people along the way who have skills that you’re not proficient in. It helps to know if you enjoy sales or not, to know if you prefer working for yourself or someone else, and if you think you want to start you own company be around successful business owners who are willing to share inside tips with you. I highly recommend having a variety of skills, not restricted to your profession necessarily.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The coronavirus pandemic invited me to reconsider bodywork and lean into playing with energy, sound healing, and making art without judgement. I needed expression and space to invite others into play as well. I feel grateful for inner strength and levels of awareness and connection that came from what I initially perceived as distressing. Spending time focusing on vibration and my collection of singing bowls and instruments from all over the world was exciting, enticing, and made all the difference in the world when I took a break from laying my hands. This was an incredibly powerful and important pivot.
