We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ariel Bejerano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.
MY thoughts on family business is that it doesn’t get better than that. Normally we spend more time at our jobs than we do at home so opening up a business knowing that in the future I will be able to hire my children and teach them what I know about running a business and taking care of your workers is something that inspires me to keep going.

Ariel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Before opening my own business in Impact windows and doors I was a high school math teacher. That was a true joy for me to be able to teach young adults and at the same time see them grow. While I truly loved that job, I felt that I could do more for my family so i started to sell windows and doors for a company. After about a year of the the owner asked me to leave my teaching career and help manage and build his company. 4 years later i decided that it was my turn to take a leap of faith and start my own business. I can truly say this journey has been a roller coaster but its been a great ride and looking forward to what the future holds.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me will be referrals. As i get a referral I have a 80% closing rate. When people come referred to me they are already informed on how great of a product I sell and how clean and transparent we are in my company.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that the bigger of a company you are the happier you will be.
I realized that keeping the company profitable and your employees happy are the main reasons a company strives. Yes scaling a business’ is fun but at the end of the day if you are a small profitable company then i can say that is where happiness is.
