We were lucky to catch up with Arianne Traverso recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Arianne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

When I decided to start Arianne Om consulting + creative marketing I had been 20 years freelancing in graphic design and photography and teaching yoga all around the world. I consider this my gypsy years where I did what I wanted, when I wanted and was satisfied with a simple business and a care free life. It wasn’t until about 2015 when the “adult” bug hit me and I was full on BUSINESS OWNER.

I owned one of the most renowned yoga studios in Miami, was the owner of the largest Yoga and Wellness trade show in Florida, was leading international retreats and mentoring women starting their new businesses.

Something had shifted for this to happen that took me from this carefree nomad to a serious entrepreneur and that was desire for impact.

Now it all sounds like a dream but there was a lot of pain, depression and mistakes along the way.

First of all if you read the first sentence above, I was a freelancer vs a business owner. This is a HUGE difference and one that needs to be noted. The mindset shift that occurred was important and also the responsibility I decided to take on as well.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

Trading time for money. When I was a freelancer and yoga teacher it was always about trading time for money vs leveraging my resources for revenue. It wasn’t until I created my 1st online course that I was able to see the rewards for my work and years of investments of knowledge.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

Bootstrapping business is not easy but it can be done, especially for a digital business.

What do you need:

1. A plan
2. An iPhone
3. Good wifi
4. Marketing budget
5. Software budget
6. Assistant budget

Can you job pay for your side business? Can you ask for grants? An SBA loan?
Money is always findable and replaceable, what you don’t get back is time.

So make sure because you’re bootstrapping you aren’t loosing precious time which means loosing precious time.
