We recently connected with Arianna Watkins and have shared our conversation below.
Arianna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea of opening my own waxing business because I was working at a waxing chain for two years and I just became unhappy. The waxing chain was all about being fast when it came to waxing and basically getting people in and out the door as quickly as possible. Sometimes I barely had time to talk to the person I was waxing. This pushed me to want my own waxing business because of their crazy policies such as only having 15 minutes to wax a person but also that person has 9 minutes to get on my table, it all just did not make sense and the burn
Out was real. I knew that when I opened my own waxing business I would make clients feel welcomed, Comfortable, if they needed a minute to breathe while I was waxing them I would have time to let them do that without having to rush them or the waxing process. I was most excited to have a space where women would feel safe and trust me with their waxing needs without them feeling judged.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My Name Is Arianna Watkins. I am 30 years old, a mother of two and a Wife. I got into the waxing industry by going to esthetician school. When I first entered school the goal was to get my license and offer skin correcting facial services for people who struggle with acne or hyperpigmentation. Once we got onto the waxing portion of the program I was instantly hooked. I loved the instant results waxing came with and I was a natural at it. I knew once I graduated I wanted to be a wax specialist. I offer full body waxing services and I also provide after products to maintain your skin and waxing results. I help clients who may suffer with Ingrowns and black heads from years of shaving and just want a change of how they remove their bodily hair. What I think sets me apart from others in this industry is my personality and my relatability. I am most proud of the space that I have created for myself to help others who may have been scared to go to a big waxing chain but still want to experience getting waxed. I want potential clients to know that they are safe At SmoothKatWaxBar! When you enter into this space know you are safe and free from judgement. I can and will help you achieve your skincare goals no matter what. I want women of every size, Race, background to know that when they come to SmoothKat their needs will always be met.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Yes. One thing that has happened on my journey of being a business owner that makes me resilient is I basically had to start over again. I went and got a “Salon Suite” because that’s what everyone does. I quickly learned without the clientele or money I should have waited to make that move. I was just starting out so I did not have a lot of clientele, eventually every week I was stressed because rent would be due and man was it high! I had to put my pride to the side and walk away from my dream suite due to not being able to afford it. I felt disappointed and sad. I eventually moved my business into my home and my loyal clients have followed me. I kept going because this was my dream and I refused to give up.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media Presence is so important in todays time. I know it’s easier said than done but just post! Even when you think no one is following or watching you just post! Trust they see you. I built my social media up just by showing my face. I want people to know who they are going to when they book a service with me. So I post my face and show my personality so people can get a feel for me.
