We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Arianna Gonzalez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Arianna below.
Arianna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
I got my start in the Music Business through education. I’ve been creating and performing all my life – but when I attended Full Sail University and engulfed myself with learning the industry, that’s when I gained skills and confidence to put myself out there.
I am blessed with a very supportive mom who helped me get to college as soon as I told her about my decision. In terms of starting my business, or brand, it was a slow burn. It started with being valuable to those around me . Helping others and working for free. Growth comes naturally and as I built more relationships and experience – I kept hitting milestones and goals.
Arianna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Arianna “Ari” Gonzalez, and I am a Music Business Educator and Consultant based in Orlando, FL. My company is called, “Dare and Defy” and the work I do all revolves around Independent and Upcoming Musicians. Primarily, I teach folks about the Music Industry with topics like entrepreneurship, royalty collection, marketing, contracts and much more! As a consultant, I serve as a creative director, project manager, marketing manager, production manager, stage manager, event coordinator, host, public speaker, graphic designer, ect.
I serve musicians who are not ready for who cannot yet afford management – build growth in their careers. I help them learn the industry, plan and execute releases, production and events, along with connect them with my roledex of industry contacts.
On top of that I have both a podcast and internet radio show where I review and play independent music for FREE and talk about music industry news.
I am most proud to be resource and helping hand – I look forward to being a part of the change I want to see in entertainment and creative labor rights.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The biggest factor to building a strong reputation in your community is building genuine relationships and SHOWING UP! When I meet new folks I SHOW UP! I go to the show they tell me about, or listen to the song they send me. I ACT to show my support, which results in great relationships and reciprocity.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative and helping other creatives is making dreams a reality. Through planning, teamwork and passion, you can make anything happen and it is so fulfilling and fun to do that! The final product is always such an amazing view – and knowing what work went in to each detail feels amazing.
