We recently connected with Ariane Sumlin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariane, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I remember the day I decided to take the risk and chase my dream as a musician. It wasn’t an easy choice, stepping away from the stability of a 9-5 job, but I knew deep down that music was my calling, my passion, my purpose.
I dove headfirst into the unknown, armed with determination and a hunger to learn. I taught myself how to produce music, each beat and melody a testament to my dedication. Recording became second nature, as I transformed my humble space into a studio where my dreams took flight.
But it wasn’t just about the music; it was about the entire journey. I delved into the world of makeup, learning how to enhance my stage presence with every brush stroke. Planning photoshoots became a creative outlet, each frame capturing the essence of my artistry.
Building my own website was a challenge I embraced eagerly, a digital canvas where I could showcase my music and connect with my audience. And when it came to designing cover art for my releases, I let my imagination run wild, infusing each design with the soul of my music.
Networking was key, and I didn’t shy away from reaching out to important figures in the industry. It was nerve-wracking at first, but with each connection made, my confidence grew. I learned from the best, soaking in wisdom and advice like a sponge, grateful for every opportunity that came my way.
But perhaps the biggest risk of all was starting my own business outside of music. It was a leap of faith, a bold move to secure my future and pursue my passion without the constraints of a traditional job. It wasn’t easy juggling both worlds, but I refused to let fear hold me back.
As I stand here today, I see how far I’ve come. The journey has been challenging, filled with ups and downs, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m living my dream, creating music that moves souls and building a life that’s uniquely my own. And as I look to the horizon, I know that the best is yet to come.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Indica Nights. A self taught Producer/Recording Artist/Business Owner. I love creating music, I actually just love creating in general, it’s like therapy for me. I’ve been producing music since 2011, I began singing and rapping in 2014 & engineering in 2020. The most exciting thing about being a creative is always having the opportunity to learn something new and seeing my progression and growth over time. I often think back to when I first started making beats and had no idea what I was doing, but how eager I was to learn to now where I’m confident in my skills and what I create. My natural desire to be creative has taken me down various other artistic avenues as well, I’ve learned and am still learning to play the piano, I’ve gotten very good at makeup and have done my own makeup for all of my photo shoots, I just recently got into photography and editing photos, I’ve learned graphic design and have done all of my cover art for music, I’ve directed, filmed and edited my very first music video and most recently I started my own clothing line in which I’ve designed graphic tee’s for. Overall, I feel like there’s nothing I can’t do. If it truly sparks my interest I’m going to go for it and be the best I can at it. I hope that I can inspire others, especially those who feel like they don’t have the resources to fulfill their dreams to find the resource within themselves, in this day in age with Youtube and TikTok you can literally learn how to do anything ! I hope the more I learn, the more I’m able to create, the more I’m able to share with everyone. That’s the best part of it all, sharing my art with others who appreciate it.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are a number of books that have significantly impacted my management and entrepreneurial thinking. Just to name a few The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel, The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, Your Faith Is Your Fortune by Neville Goddard, and The Alchemist by Paul Coelho.
“The Game of Life and How to Play It” by Florence Scovel Shinn is a classic self-help book that offers spiritual and metaphysical insights into achieving success, happiness, and fulfillment in life. The book presents timeless principles and practical techniques for harnessing the power of the mind and spirit to overcome challenges and manifest one’s desires.
“The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle is a transformative spiritual guide that invites readers to awaken to the present moment as the key to inner peace, fulfillment, and enlightenment. Tolle illuminates the pervasive influence of the ego and the incessant chatter of the mind, which often obstruct individuals from experiencing the profound stillness and clarity of the present moment. Tolle encourages readers to let go of past regrets and future anxieties, and to embrace the timeless essence of their being. By cultivating presence and mindfulness, readers learn to disidentify from their thoughts and emotions, and to access a deeper dimension of consciousness that transcends the limitations of the egoic mind. “The Power of Now” serves as a gentle reminder of the inherent joy and freedom that arises from surrendering to the present moment, and offers practical guidance for living a life of awakened awareness and inner tranquility.
“Your Faith Is Your Fortune” by Neville Goddard is a profound exploration of the transformative power of faith and imagination in shaping personal reality and manifesting desired outcomes. Drawing upon spiritual principles and biblical teachings, Goddard emphasizes the role of consciousness in creating one’s circumstances and experiences. Through vivid anecdotes and metaphysical insights, he illustrates how individuals can harness the creative power of their beliefs and assumptions to manifest their deepest desires and aspirations. Goddard’s teachings emphasize the importance of assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled and living from the end result, thereby aligning oneself with the abundant and infinite possibilities of the universe. “Your Faith Is Your Fortune” serves as a timeless guide for awakening to the inherent creative potential within each individual and unlocking the key to living a life of purpose, fulfillment, and abundance.
“The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho follows the journey of Santiago, a young shepherd boy, as he embarks on a quest to discover his Personal Legend—the fulfillment of his deepest desires and the realization of his true purpose in life. Santiago encounters a series of mentors and guides who impart timeless wisdom and profound insights about following one’s dreams, listening to the language of the universe, and embracing the unknown with courage and faith. Through Santiago’s adventures, Coelho touches on themes including destiny, love, perseverance, and the transformative power of self-discovery. “The Alchemist” contains a universal message of hope, inspiration, and the boundless possibilities that await those who dare to pursue their dreams and heed the whispers of their hearts.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can best support artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem by recognizing the intrinsic value of artistic expression and providing comprehensive support networks. This includes investing in arts education at all levels, ensuring equitable access to resources and funding opportunities, establishing affordable studio spaces and venues for exhibitions and performances, promoting cultural diversity and inclusion within the arts, and fostering collaborations and networking opportunities. Additionally, society should prioritize fair compensation and recognition for artists’ contributions, protect intellectual property rights, and actively engage with and appreciate the arts through attendance at cultural events, public art projects, and community initiatives. By creating an environment that values and nurtures creativity, society can cultivate a vibrant and sustainable ecosystem that enriches lives, stimulates innovation, and reflects the diverse tapestry of human experience.
