Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ariana Hartman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ariana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My first client was my friend Kadaja. She is one of the main people that pushed me to start pursuing makeup. I started out by practicing on her and then she asked me to complete a service for her. She has been a client ever since!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been creative, whether it was painting, drawing, clay, oil pastels, or sidewalk chalk. I have always found a passion in creating art. I realized makeup was another form of art I could tap into, and I’ve been here ever since. 8 years in and I can say I’ve learned a lot about myself and also the people I service. I provide makeup services that enhance your beauty. My goal is to add to what is there and not mask or take away from your natural beauty. I’m most proud of the rooms my feet have now stepped into. I’ve done makeup for graduations, proms, women empowerment shoots, birthday shoots, business shoots, baby showers, weddings, and special events.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
All the funding for my business has come from my full-time job. I started out by having clients provide their own lashes and foundation. I then began to slowly build up my inventory related to foundation, concealers, setting powders, and eyelashes. I’m now able to provide full servicing without customers needing to bring anything.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I began building my audience on social media by creating an Instagram. I started off posting before/after pictures of my clients and also the photoshoots I was a part of. I’ve met a few clients through Instagram now, but I need to focus more time on creating content that I can post to gain more traction.
