Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Arezu Sohn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Arezu, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
Prior to Real Estate, I worked in healthcare practicing Acupuncture and Asian Herbal Medicine. I healed people wholistically, treating the whole person rather than a specific symptom. I learned to listen to people and see them entirely. Carefully paying attention, allows me to understand what a buyer or seller is truly looking for and recognize their needs. Buyers for example, sometimes begin a search with a very specific set of parameters. I will notice how they interact with the homes they see, which elements bring them joy and what areas they focus on less. These observations allow me to find them the home that has the features most important to them. My client, Nicole, never realized how much she valued outdoor space in a home, but her face would light up if a property had a roof deck or balcony. We finally found her a home with a large and lovely landscaped terrace. Seeing how happy her home makes her gives me tremendous joy.
Where you live, your home is everything. It’s where you start and end each day. Everyone deserves a home that brings them joy. Realizing people’s dreams for how they want to live is at the heart of what I do.
Arezu, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I live, eat, and breathe New York City. I love this city like no other. I am so lucky to call NYC my home and share my passion for it by helping others make this city their home as well. Living here for almost 25 years, I have an extensive knowledge of this amazing city and all it has to offer.
I appreciate fashion and the way it correlates to personal style and the home. My attention to detail allows me to see the potential in every property. Loving the home you represent is essential to selling it. I am able to relate my affection for a home to potential buyers – that love and enthusiasm shines through.
Buying and selling real estate is stressful. I work with people to make the entire experience seamless. I take time to get to know their needs and partner with them throughout the entire process. I am honest and determined to provide an exceptional real estate experience to all of my clients.
When I’m not busy working with clients, you can find me eating and drinking my way through Manhattan and the four other boroughs, experiencing all that New York City has to offer and sharing my love for it with my husband and five children.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Integrity. People often have the misconception that you have to be “cut throat” to be in real estate, but that is not true. Everyone wants to work with someone they can trust.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Having to know everything. When I began my career in real estate, I was afraid to tell people that I did not know the answer to something. I believed saying “I don’t know” gave the impression that I didn‘t know what I was doing. People respect honesty. During the pandemic, I heard agents who I really admired tell their clients that they didn’t know what was going to happen in the real estate market. I realized that I don’t always have to have all of the answers either. We cannot predict the real estate market, we have to work hard and smart in the current market.
