I thought about the people I’ve met over the years friends, family, even strangers who’ve felt insecure about their sparse brows or who spent hours every day trying to fill them in. What many might not know is that, alongside running my microblading business, I also work full-time as a police dispatcher. My career in law enforcement is demanding and fast-paced, requiring focus and composure at all times. The first step was saving consistently from my dispatcher income. I created a budget and set aside a portion of each paycheck specifically for this dream. It wasn’t easy balancing bills, daily expenses, and saving for a business required discipline but I stayed focused because I believed in what I was building.

I also made strategic decisions to minimize upfront costs. For example, I invested in a reputable microblading training program that offered great value for the quality of education. I chose to start small with essential tools and supplies, focusing on quality over quantity to ensure I could provide exceptional results from day one.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

A powerful lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that everything had to be perfect before I could start. For a long time, I felt that I needed to have all the answers, the perfect setup, and every detail ironed out before launching Amour MD Lounge. I thought if I didn’t have everything “just right,” I’d fail or worse, disappoint my clients.

The backstory to this lesson began when I was preparing to take my first microblading class. I delayed signing up for weeks because I felt I needed more knowledge, more practice, or better tools before I could even start learning. Even after completing the class, I hesitated to take on clients because I feared I wasn’t “ready enough.”

But then one day, I received a message from someone who desperately wanted their brows done. They had seen my practice work and said they trusted me to help them feel confident again. That moment changed everything. I realized that waiting for perfection was holding me back from making an impact and helping others.

When I finally took the leap and worked with my first client, it wasn’t flawless but it was heartfelt. Their reaction, the joy on their face, and their gratitude reminded me that people aren’t looking for perfection; they’re looking for someone who genuinely cares and is willing to grow and improve.

Since then, I’ve embraced the idea that progress is more important than perfection. Starting messy is better than not starting at all. This mindset has not only allowed me to build Amour MD Lounge while balancing my full-time job as a police dispatcher but also helped me continuously improve my craft without the fear of failing.

Unlearning the need for perfection has been freeing, and it’s a lesson I carry with me in both my business and personal life. I now focus on showing up with authenticity, dedication, and a willingness to learn, knowing that growth comes from action—not hesitation.
