We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Archeila Riley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Archeila below.
Archeila, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
While in Esthetician school I decided that my journey as a solo Esthetician would be the better fit for me! Early on, I knew that I would best serve the community with my own practice because I have been involved with several other businesses of my own so I knew that I had what it takes to be a solo entrepreneur. So during my time in school, I behaved and carried myself as Owner by having my logo developed and signage made. Whenever I had clients scheduled, I would bring my own sheets, signage, and other personalized effects as if I already had my own spa. This way when they showed up for their appointment, they felt like they were actually coming to see me at my place of business. Talk about actually implementing the vision! That’s exactly what I did! I knew I would start out being a traveling or mobile Esthetician and that’s what I practiced in school. Setting up and breaking down my own materials for my clients.
For new Estheticians, my advice is to decide early on what path you want to take after finishing school and becoming licensed. Whether that’s becoming a solo Esthetician or working at a spa. Whatever route you choose, show up each day in class putting forth full effort as if you’re showing up for work either at your place of business or at your place of employment. Start becoming what it is you desire to do in this industry. No one can hold you back but yourself! Think big and don’t be afraid to be impactful!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi my name is Archeila Riley and I am the owner of Skin Savvy Esthetics based in Dallas/Fort Worth. As a Licensed Esthetician I am very passionate about skincare and helping others love the skin they’re in! I specialize in corrective skincare, specifically those that suffer with acne and hyperpigmentation issues. I am also a PMU artist and love creating beautiful Ombre powder brows for my clients. Early last year I decided to go to Esthetician school as I was thinking of how I wanted to be more fulfilled in my life and serving people on a more personal level. I thought about how as a younger woman they joy of getting facials and massages regularly made me feel. I remembered my time as a Mary Kay Consultant and how having a skin routine each day helped to clear up my skin and boosted my confidence. I wanted to give this same exhilarating experience back to others, so I went through the Esthetician program at Collective Academy, and what a wonderful experience it has been! To actually see how I can change others lives and help boost their confidence is a game changer for me! At Skin Savvy Esthetics, our focus is on skin health and educating clients on the dynamics of their skin. We empower our clients by providing top tier services with quality and care and providing a customized experience for them. There are no one size fits all type of treatments for our clients because we provide what the person needs in addition to what they may want.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Hands down I would! I honestly feel that most people don’t honestly know what it is they want to do as a career until later in life. This is the case for me! I’ve tried all types of jobs and business ventures and none of them felt like the right choice for me. Even when I was in school, I just knew that this was the right fit for me! On the first day of class I felt fulfilled because I knew in my soul that this was the absolute right choice for my life. I’ve accomplished many things, even obtaining my Masters in Accounting/Financial Management. By obtaining my Esthetician Diploma and becoming a Licensed Esthetician, I feel that I’ve arrived!

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
In this industry, training/knowledge will get you far, but having a love for serving people and excellent customer service skills definitely sets you apart. I’ve met people in the industry that honestly are not people persons and I always wonder how do they stay in a field that requires you to interact with people in a more personal way because we are in their intimate space. Energy is everything when it comes to this industry because your clients feed off of your energy! How you show up to perform services is directly linked to your energy! Energy is everywhere! And you want your clients to experience great energy from you because this will keep them coming back for more!
