We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Arbeilla Wilson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Arbeilla below.
Arbeilla , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I started my company to help me get out of a depressed state I was in. I used my business to help me challenge my thoughts of feeling less than. I want to mention, yes I was praying and seeking God, but I also put in the work to see change within myself.

Arbeilla , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, my name is Arbeilla Wilson and I am the CEO of The Makeup Tea Cosmetics. I describe our brand to be nostalgic and creative. From the memories of playing tea party at a young age to now being merged in the concept of makeup tea. Our cosmetics line is themed based off of tea/tea party. We created our foundations and concealer to represent tea, naming our Shades of Tea Foundations and Concealer after them. We have Honey Gloss, Sugar Setting Powders, and we are currently working on a new product, milk makeup wipes. Our themed makeup company allows us to be creative and tap into the memories of those childhood tea parties. However, we are more than just a makeup line, we are a sisterhood. We created a nonprofit organization called No More Mean Girl. We are excited to be building a program to help women become better visions of themselves. Our goal is to have traveling Tea Parties to empower women.
What makes my brand special? Me! I am a one woman show that went into the manufacturing industry and created a brand that represents many other women who betted and invested in themselves!
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Yes, my products are manufactured. This process was definitely interesting. Google had became my best friend. I search for manufacturers that first met my work values, and also produce quality work. It was a trial and error experience. To be honest I am still waiting on samples for a company that I purchased from over 2 years ago. Nevertheless, I found the perfect company for The Makeup Tea. My product developer understands my vision and work just as hard as I do to ensure my inventory is up to part. However, make sure you check all your products when you receive them. I have had to throwaway many foundations due to bottle malfunction.
I wanted my makeup line to range from $10-$15. However, I quickly learned that it is more expensive when you order lower quantities (also, shipping cost is outrageous). I am not at the stage where I am ordering larger quantities which does effect my overall product price. However, you still have to stay consistent and believe in your product(s).

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
Starting a business isn’t always glamorous. There are times when you will have to choose your business over you, your needs, and your wants. You have to be willing to loose somethings in order to see the success of your business. For example, I personally have opted out social outings because I used my personal financials to pay my business bills due to my business account having insufficient funds. Being a business owner, you truly have to make sacrifices that many won’t understand. However, if you believe in the success of your business don’t give up! Keep planting seed because one day you will taste the fruit of your labor.
