Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Arati Misro. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Arati, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Generally speaking, my mission is to create more compassion and empathy in our world. Perhaps this is why I embarked on a career in filmmaking which has evolved with the times we live in. My passion for telling stories relates to my strong conviction in encouraging mental health, strong leadership, being inclusive and being mindful and kind to others. Empowering the artist and the creative and producing compelling content.
Arati, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Since I was pretty young, I was very fascinated with art, music, journaling and anything related to self expression. I am grateful my parents encouraged me to take these classes and it became an escape of my desperate attempts in trying to assimilate in “looking” like everyone else. It became my safe place from being teased and bullied about my name and where my parents came from. As a daughter of immigrants from East India, I was always looked at as an outsider. As I grew older, I took some film and TV production classes in college and I was intrigued. I really took the plunge and took a leap of faith by shooting a documentary in my ancestral state, Orissa, India during a 6 month stay after college and still do to this day, the smartest thing I did for several reasons that still resonate with me deeply.
I was studying the socio-economic status of women with a non profit organization and felt video would be a powerful way to educate and inspire others. I was lucky enough to get granted admission to the American film inst. with my documentary and other pieces I produced as a part of my portfolio.. I pursued my MFA and this was the beginning of my career as a filmmaker. I spent years in the trenches of independent filmmaking and transitioned into many other aspects of the business and the independent film from distribution, finance, legal and even post production positions. These experiences gave me a visceral perspective of life and to embrace empathy for others. I have carried this perspective throughout my career as I went on to work for a handful of startups and worked in product sales. I stumbled across technology and started connecting the dots via technology, education, philanthropy, Entertainment and business. I have partnered with a few industry veterans in not only aspiring to produce content but to build companies. I also do consulting for various businesses and startups, inventors and entrepreneurs with their pursuits as well with business plans and decks. I am also working in Brand Identity for Entertainment businesses and businesses professionals who want to start their own company. I am pretty versatile post my MBA and certifications with google in project management. I am a student for life thus taking courses in Data analytics , AI and International Management.
I am deeply passionate about supporting companies with their story, voice and brand as a communications manager and or business development exec which is marketing and content driven. Every business has to have content and has to have a brand to stand out in our saturated market. What makes me stand out is my ability to adapt quickly, communicate with different teams effectively and I have worked locally and abroad. I have spent extensive time in India and Europe. I am an anthropologist at heart and love culture and stories about other cultures. I am analytical yet very creative. I am most proud of the people I get to work with and my family for being a huge support and my biggest champions. I am proud of where my parents are from too. I am proud of recently producing a feature film in the bay area called Designed by Preeti, Proud of chairing women in film International L.A for many years. I also recently worked on a TV show “Meet the Drapers” with my childhood friends. It’s amazing and empowering to collaborate with diverse women leaders and south asian women where we found common ground and familiarity. I am humbled to re-connect with local content creators and Entertainment professionals in the bay area where I grew up. You can read more about my work here. Proud of it all! https://linktr.ee/aratim
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal and mission is to empower and coach creatives. Provide modalities, structure and education to thrive in business and in life. I also want to continue my work with producing content and consulting and advising companies with their brand, content and marketing strategies. I am especially interested in companies with a social impact vision.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
It’s a good feeling to be heard and seen as far as my work is concerned and the value I can bring to the table. I am always on a mission to recognize talent and nurture talent whether it’s a writer, an actor or a director. It’s very rewarding to collaborate with talented people who have gifts I feel the world needs to experience.. I think what is most rewarding is being constantly curious and learning from others. Also constantly learning and applying what I learn to empower others too.
