We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aracely Ramirez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aracely below.
Hi Aracely, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I remember that a few years ago, I felt I was at the top of my career, but I also felt I was capable of doing better work. At that time, I had a pressure on my chest and a voice that kept my mind very busy, saying all the time, “You must leave.” I was very confused. I had always wanted to travel around the world doing my art, but I was afraid of failure. That voice never stopped. It sometimes got quiet, but it always came back, stronger.
One day, I decided to take the risk and leave home. I traveled by myself through several countries and had the chance to tattoo in some very well-recognized tattoo shops around the world. I thought I would never have clients, since nobody knew who I was, but I was wrong. The fear was always pushing me back, but the desire for improvement was stronger, so it couldn’t stop me.
Taking that risk has definitely been the most amazing and rewarding experience of my life. It changed everything for the better. I had the chance to explore, showcase my work, and improve my tattoo technique by learning from great artists around the world. I also improved my second language (English).
Did I expect that? Not at all! It was much more than I ever imagined. I got to know myself better, and I developed personal and artistic skills that make my life amazing most of the time.
The feeling on my chest disappeared, and I now have a very calm mind.
I think that we all get that call from life, telling us to move forward and step out of our comfort zone. I always recommend answering that call. It will surely be the most rewarding experience for yourself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a tattoo artist from Santiago, Chile. I have been tattooing for almost 12 years in total, but only half of that time since I decided to do it full-time. I have always wanted to become a tattoo artist, but I never thought I would have the chance to actually become one. I have developed my own style, but I always learn new techniques in order to mix them with what I already know.
Most of my clients get tattoos based on personal and meaningful experiences. I specialize in color and abstract tattoos, and I collaborate with my clients to create their projects. Working this way allows me to design tattoos that will last and age properly. This is probably my favorite part of my work. I really enjoy designing projects with my clients while they are watching me work. It gives them a clear idea of what they will get on their skin, while I have the opportunity to add or remove elements to make the design the best possible. I really like to create detailed designs, so my clients can see in advance the result they will get. Patience is key to get the best possible result. I am very patient and I expect the same from my customers.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
believe that having happy clients is the most rewarding experience. Tattooing is something you cannot easily change, or at least it’s not that simple to remove. I am very conscious that I do work that lasts forever. This means that my work will always speak for me, and I want it to represent me well. When my clients are happy with the results, I feel very happy too because I know that the piece I’ve done will always show that I do a good job.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think the best thing people can do for artists is to trust us. When clients give us enough freedom to create, we can provide them with exquisite ideas. Art is creativity, and it’s much more rewarding for us to have the chance to explore that creativity and transform it into a design/tattoo. This allows us to show the best version of our ideas and gives them the best of us. If you trust the process, the result will be the best.
