We recently connected with April, Tyron Harper Harper, Harper and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, April, Tyron Harper thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Harp Vision is a self-care business that stands by the ethos “self-care isn’t selfish.” In the true spirit of living out that mentality, one of the defining moments for April was leaving her part-time job to put her full efforts into growing Harp Vision. While this would, in the short term, negatively impact us financially, it would ultimately improve the overall outcomes and success of Harp Vision. This decision allowed for more time and energy to be fully invested in building the future of our company.
Tyron contracted COVID-19 when the disease was new and fatal for so many. He was very sick, and despite overcoming COVID-19, he continued to suffer from subsequent health issues. Tyron decided it was time to live life to the fullest. He started eating healthier and taking care of his body, which helped him to lose 100 pounds. “It was like COVID held up a mirror to me,” he said.
Tyron also left his Baltimore City Public School teaching job and together, he and April decided to create products to help people “pour back into themselves.”

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For folks who may not have read about you before, can you please tell our readers about yourself, how you got into your industry / business / discipline / craft etc., what type of products/services/creative works you provide, what problems you solve for your clients and/or what you think sets you apart from others. What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc. Please provide as much detail as you feel relevant as this is one of the core questions where the reader will get to know about you and your brand/organization/etc.
We founded Harp Vision, a minority-owned LLC based in Baltimore that specializes in helping caregivers and those who suffer from chronic pain to prioritize self-care and well-being.
20% of American adults suffer from chronic pain, contributing to roughly $560 billion in health-related costs each year. In addition, underrepresented communities who may suffer might not have the time or resources to participate in self-care rituals to improve their quality of life.
We know this first-hand, with Tyron living with fibromyalgia and April living with endometriosis. However, we turned our own health struggles into Harp Vision, a thriving small business offering all-natural products – such as body scrubs and soaps – to relieve pain and improve people’s way of life. We are living proof that chronic pain doesn’t need to prohibit you from doing what you love.
Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the biggest turning points in our business was when April decided to leave her part-time job to go all-in on Harp Vision. It was a time when we were on the precipice of growth and needed to make difficult decisions to fully actualize our dream of scaling Harp Vision.
Being an entrepreneur is not only about making those life-changing leaps, but also trusting that your business has the potential to make it.
Pivoting in your career doesn’t have to be scary if you have a team or a community behind you. Our community is the city of Baltimore. We work closely with local small business incubators such as Impact Hub Baltimore and Empower by GoDaddy in order to network, learn about new tools and skills to grow our business and generally stay connected to the entrepreneur scene that surrounds us. This partnership allowed us to share our story in the fourth season of GoDaddy’s docuseries Made in America which follows our business journey including the challenges and success we encounter along the way.
We encourage small business owners to trust their instincts and go with their passion, even if that means taking life-changing risks.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Having a digital presence has been vital to growing our clientele. We leverage GoDaddy tools to build our website to reflect our mission, enable e-commerce and take our business to the next level.
The pandemic taught us that you can no longer rely on selling products in-person; you need multiple ways to sell your products. A website allows us to reach a larger customer base and the ability to always remain “open.”
Whether you’re opening a virtual storefront or leveraging social media tools, it’s important to ensure that your content is relevant to your brand and ladders back to your company values. Stay true and authentic to who YOU are!
