We caught up with the brilliant and insightful April Tomarchio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi April , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Upon learning that my girlfriends mother was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, I knew I needed to give her something meaningful. With that in mind, I made her a special messaged design that was almost as she said it herself, “I’m Making Cancer My Bitch”. She is still battling cancer and we pray for her every day that she conquers this demon. 💗

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been the “crafty” one! I’ve made candles and bouquets for my little sisters wedding & home decor for family & friends. For years I did this as just that, a hobby. I was shopping one day in early 2016 and come upon a top I wanted to purchase. When I viewed the price tag, I was astounded. And like many crafters, I thought to myself “I can make they for WAY less”. And so my business adventure began. My goal was to create and offer affordable apparel. I researched the T-shirt business, ways to create designs, read, watched, and took the leap. I started out of my home, purchased all the necessary equipment and began.
I hit every road block possible to stop me. But I was determined to get it right. After MANY fails, trials & tribulations, I am happy with my decision to push on.
I have an Etsy shop that helps fellow crafters, I have my online website that offers items from crafters blanks to designed & custom apparel, and my brick and mortar Creative Boutique in Camdenton, Missouri.
We offer affordable apparel, tumblers, custom apparel & much more.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to create & offer affordable, quality custom apparel for your everyday retail customer.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being creative is being self taught. I am still learning graphic design & prefer it this way. I’ve never been one to have patience to sit and watch videos, start to finish, or read and learn. I’m a hand on learner and prefer it that way. In my graphic programs, I “hunt & peck” to see what this does, or what happens when I do this & then test my outcome.
