Hi April , thanks for joining us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
I hate to sound cheesy, but my hero is my mom! She’s the entire reason I am who I am today. The reason why I even ventured into the hair business is because she owned a beauty supply store when I was younger, and I would help out most summers and weekends. From there, I really fell in love with the beauty industry.
The biggest lesson I learned from her was to always remain pure hearted. My mom always put others before herself and I feel that poured into her businesses. Also, she always put customer satisfaction above all else. She’s not perfect of course but she always tries to do right by people. I believe that’s the reason we’ve both had success in the beauty industry & I learned those vital lessons from her.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is April Showers. I am a graduate of Jackson State University, a dog mom, and a 6 figure business owner.
As I mentioned earlier, my mom owned a beauty supply store when I was young and I would always be there stocking products, adding price labels to them, and helping throughout the store. This is where my interest in the beauty industry peaked.
Years later… Luxy Life is a 6 Figure Hair Business. We’ve served over a thousand customers, serviced celebrities, developed products, and more!
Luxy Life is a luxury hair business providing the best quality Wigs, Bundles, Hair Products & Accessories. In a saturated industry, Luxy Life is set apart by our mission, products, and commitment to our customers.
I’m proud of being in business for 4 years. A lot of businesses fail in the first year. However, I am determined to persevere & and with the help of God, I will not fail. I have customers that’s been consistently shopping with Luxy Life since year one, month one. I’m forever grateful to those who support us.
I would like potential customers to know above all else, we put our customers first. Our customers are our TOP Priority. In so many businesses, customers are treated so poorly. But where would any business be without customers? Customers are the backbone of Luxy Life. We always make sure to do everything we can to make them feel gorgeous & enjoy their shopping experience.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Investing in my skills & perfecting my craft has helped my business grow tremendously! I went from just selling bundles to selling wigs, and now customized wigs, which has helped to increase my sales. If customers love your product, they will tell someone and now you have a new customer! Word of mouth is so effective because potential customers are always more likely to trust someone they know over a business they don’t know much about.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I love listening to Eric Thomas’ videos on YouTube while I’m working. He’s extremely motivating & I love how he grounds every message with an excerpt from The Word. A lot of his teachings is to just trust & believe in yourself as well! In entrepreneurship, that’s half the battle!
