We recently connected with April Price and have shared our conversation below.
April, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
“To be successful” is a double-edged sword. For you to reach success, you have to make sacrifices. Whether it be missing out on important family moments to later be able to provide for your family or not accepting every business opportunity that doesn’t align with your morals. It takes a special kind of person to break through that glass ceiling. I would like to think that I’m approachable, honest and caring, as well as dedicated to seeing my vision through. There is no plan B!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
It all began with booking corporate comedy shows under my employer. They wanted to have a Holiday event with various entertainers and vendors. I was in charge of booking the talent. I had a friend that referred me to a well-known comedian in the city. His name: Kareem “Plug” Chapman. Ever since then, he has been my comedy “plug” when it comes to finding the best acts to put on our shows. The corporate event was a success. And since that moment, I was bitten by the booking bug! If anybody needed any entertainment, I was that girl!
As CEO of APM Promotions, we provide you with the best talent in the city! The number one source for nightlife entertainment in the city of Atlanta. From music acts, DJs, comedians, hosts, etc. You need it, we got it!
We’ve booked many well-known acts throughout the city such as: Fabo, Pastor Troy, Zen Tha Buddha, Raheem the Dream, Wingo (of RnB Group Jagged Edge). As well as comedians from the likes of: Ronnie Jordan, Erica Duchess, Mope Williams (Wild-N-Out), Vanessa Fraction, Ashima Franklin, Sweet Baby Kita, Mario Tory, and Corey “Zooman” Miller, just to name a few.

Have you ever had to pivot?
As I got my start booking comedy, I noticed a downward slope of trajectory of crowd attendance. It made me question what I was doing this all for. Had I overstayed my welcome in the industry? Had people grown tired of seeing live comedians in the new age of virality and instant fame? Something had to give.
One day I was attending an artist showcase where I saw, for the first time, a true diamond in the rough. He exuded so much confidence for a young artist. He was so far progressed amongst his counterparts. He had immaculate stage presence with a commanding voice. His name is “Zen Tha Buddha”. Shortly after the showcase I began managing him. I could see the influence that he would have on audiences. Through his humbleness, he allowed APM Promotions to pivot from just booking comedy to booking all types of talent.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Nothing beats face to face interactions. You have to be seen in order to be believed. It’s easy to hide being a profile of yourself and spam comments. But true professionals understand the value of networking. You have to promote yourself as a business! Every show, my team would pass out business cards and get every person in the venue to follow our social media page. Then we established an email list to notify people of upcoming shows. My best advice for building your social media is this: Engage with the people. Make them remember you (positively). Because your first impression is a lasting impression.
