We caught up with the brilliant and insightful April Nickleberry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi April, thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?

When I started my business, I wanted to find a name that people would remember and that was catchy, unique and different.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I always cooked, however I wanted to provide catering services that would reach a wide range of food. Recipes were shared with me through my Aunt Ruth in making desserts. She shared the recipe of lemon pies and i took that recipe and turned it into my own. I enjoy feeding others which in turn it provides happiness to my heart when clients enjoy my food. My most proudest moments are when clients allow me to create dishes that will remain on my menu. My biggest creation has been “Crackalicious”. For all of you that have not had the pleasure of eating them, they are buttery seasoned crackers. These crackers you can eat with anything such as soup, sandwiches and gumbo. As one of my customers stated, “A cracker should not taste this good.”

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

For Delectable Sweets has been word of mouth as well as working with DeShon’s celebrity catering services. DeShon has allowed Delectable Sweets to create different dishes. The client has remember those Delectable dishes. Moreover, I have been able to create a list of clients that contracted with our services

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Many times I have wanted to give up for this is a hard business. However, when I wanted to stop the business there has always been clients that will want catering services with Delectable Sweets that has kept me going. Therefore, don’t give up on your dreams for they will come through.
