We were lucky to catch up with APRIL MARTINEZ recently and have shared our conversation below.
APRIL, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name “Purely Perspective Photography” became my business name by accident if I am being completely honest! I had no plans of creating a business when the name was originally created – photography was simply a hobby.
I was mostly taking pictures of landscapes and travel scenes when I got started with photography. I wanted to create an Instagram for my images and needed a unique username… it was that simple! That is when I started to think of names & what photography meant to me. Photography allowed me to capture the world through my own unique perspective – and this is how “Purely Perspective” was born.
Once my business shifted to portrait & wedding photography, the name stuck! I wouldn’t have it any other way. The name & meaning behind it still embodies what I do at every photo session – which is capture people’s story in my own perspective.
APRIL, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi – my name is April! I am the owner & Photographer of Purely Perspective Photography. I started my photography business in 2017 and became a full time photographer in 2020.
I specialize in portrait and wedding photography and especially love working with couples & high school seniors (their energy & excitement is contagious!!). I like to think of my style as ‘timeless and true’. The images I take are elegant and not overly edited with trends that might look good today… but not in 5 or 10 years.
My clients often say how comfortable they feel around me – which is a huge compliment!! I want my photoshoots to feel very casual and natural, as this is when the best images are made. It’s an amazing feeling to see people grow into their confidence during a photo session.
This year, I want to focus on ways to stay inspired and expand my business. Traveling is so important to me, so incorporating more destination shoots is one of my top priorities. It is also one of my top goals to open my own photo studio / creative space – not only for my own use… but for the entire community!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The biggest mission behind my career as a creator is to live a life of freedom & happiness. I want to romanticize my life as much as possible (cheesy, I know… but true!). Life is very short – wasting it doing something you hate would be a shame.
As a photographer, I get to take on projects that excite and inspire me!! I meet some really incredible people and I can work anywhere in world doing something I love. It is really a dream come true!!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Photographs are nostalgic – they preserve our favorite memories, with our favorite people and they are irreplaceable. The most rewarding part of being a photographer is being able to capture a moment in time & give my clients images they can enjoy for generations.
I am honored when someone contacts me to photograph part of their life. I often work with people getting married, having children, graduating, celebrating birthdays, etc. These are major milestones for people and it is beyond rewarding to document them and preserve those memories through photography.
