We caught up with the brilliant and insightful April Lockett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
April, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think it takes a lot of faith and patience. I think what we don’t understand is things don’t happen overnight. In my own life I had to realize that we all have a process, and mine may not look like yours. We have to go through the training of being developed and the mindset it takes to be successful. Success for many may look like, money, cars, clothing, and other material things. For me success looks like a better way of life and being able to take care of the people I love. I also feel like success can be daily strides, meaning everyday your making a conscious effort to be better than you were the day before. I feel success is what you make it. I haven’t reached the level of success I desire to be at but I’ve grown in areas that I need to so when the times come I’m ready and that already makes me successful.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who may not be familiar with me my name is April Lockett but everyone calls me “AP”. My tag line is ” You first met me on the Radio” because that where most of my fan base knows me from. I have a weekly live show entitled “ASKAP Live” which airs on Instagram every Wednesday at 9pm EST. I also offer advertising, event hosting, and other media services. I created my show in October of 2015 after being let go from my first ever Radio job in 2014. I started my media career off in Radio where I was a producer and a Radio Personality for almost 10 years. My show “ASKAP” was originally an advice show but I realized that I wanted to get to interviewing because it’s something I always enjoyed doing. In 2020 when the pandemic hit “ASKAP LIVE” was born it was a way for me to showcase my love for talking to people during the most critical times of our lives. I’m most proud of the way my followers received the show I think we all needed an outlet to talk about things that were all important to us, things that were uplifting and inspiring in such a critical time. When people watch my show I want them to see themselves, I want them to know we all have flaws and everyday won’t be perfect but it will be worth it.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think what helped me build my reputation in my market is consistency and building great relationships. I think both are key components to keeping a healthy long lasting brand.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I think the most effective strategy for growing clientele for me has been social media and word of mouth. I offer advertising as well as event services on my show. Social media and people I have worked with over the years have made that very successful for me. I think what we put out is what we get back, I pride myself on giving excellent customer service and creating an experience for my clients.
