We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful April Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with April below.
Hi April , thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I had a very good job—stable, well-paying, and full of responsibility. I was the primary breadwinner for my family and a mother of five. Life was a constant balancing act, trying to juggle the demands of work and home.
Then one day, I was introduced to light therapy. I went in for a session at a local spa, not knowing what to expect. When I walked out, something had shifted. The world looked a little brighter—literally and figuratively.
What I came to realize was that I had been stuck in a constant state of fight or flight. For years, I’d been running on stress and adrenaline without even realizing it. That session helped me reset. For the first time in a long time, I felt calm. I felt like myself. This, I thought, is how we’re supposed to feel.
I returned for a few more sessions, and each time, the effect was the same. I was sold. Before long, I purchased my own light therapy system so I could use it regularly. That decision sparked something deeper: I realized I needed to make real changes in my life.
I made the difficult choice to leave my career and pursue something completely different. I resigned from my position, rented an office, and opened my own light therapy practice.
It was a big risk—financially, professionally, and personally. But what I gained has been invaluable: I’ve reclaimed my well-being and the ability to be truly present in my life and to be able to give that gift to others. Sometimes the biggest risks lead us back to ourselves.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began my practice focusing on red light therapy, working primarily with clients who experience physical pain, emotional stress, and overall wellbeing concerns. This modality has often been described as a “massage for your cells.”
The light therapy pads I use are backed by decades of scientific research. Red and near-infrared light penetrate the skin to trigger the release of nitric oxide from blood vessels and red blood cells. This process:
Dilates blood vessels, increasing circulation for hours after treatment
Improves oxygen and nutrient delivery, promoting cellular repair
Reduces inflammation and pain, supporting long-term relief
Unlike oral medications, which must pass through the digestive system, near-infrared light stimulates nitric oxide production directly at the treatment site, providing localized pain relief and healing.
Clinical research shows that red and near-infrared light therapy can:
Reduce pain and inflammation
Increase blood circulation for faster healing
Support nerve regeneration to restore sensation
Enhance muscle recovery and reduce soreness
Promote skin health by stimulating collagen production
These effects make red light therapy a non-invasive, drug-free option for pain management and tissue recovery.
As my practice grew, I introduced complementary treatments including:
Ionic detox foot baths
Herbal-infused foot soaks
Magnesium soaks
Each of these therapies supports the body’s natural detoxification and relaxation processes.
The next addition was the Crystal Light Bed, a deeply calming and energy-balancing modality. Crystal light therapy has a long history in holistic wellness. It uses quartz crystals in combination with scalar waves, chromotherapy, light, and orgone frequencies to support physical, emotional, and spiritual harmony.
Each session is unique, but many clients report feeling:
Deep relaxation
Reduced stress and anxiety
Heightened clarity and spiritual awareness
Balanced energy and an overall sense of wellbeing
Personally, I’ve experienced feeling calmer, more focused, grounded, and deeply at peace after each session.
As a Certified Professional Light Therapist, I use a variety of frequencies tailored to each client’s individual needs to help achieve optimal results. My goal is to support healing at the cellular level while promoting a sense of peace, balance, and vitality in your daily life.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My Journey of Resilience
I opened my practice on December 2nd, 2019, and each week brought steady growth. It was an exciting and hopeful time.
Just a few months later, in March 2020, I was forced to temporarily close due to COVID-19 restrictions. I petitioned to remain open, but my request was denied.
When I was finally able to reopen, the landscape had changed. Business looked very different, and I had to adapt quickly and think creatively in order to keep my doors open and continue serving my clients.
Through persistence, innovation, and a deep belief in the healing work I offer, I’ve not only sustained my practice—but found ways to expand and evolve.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Success comes from truly listening and caring deeply about each client’s path to improved health and wellbeing.
