We caught up with the brilliant and insightful April Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

April , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?

With the candle industry being at large, I’d say the biggest trends within the candle industry are organic candles such as “Soy Candles”. I also see there is a popular demand for not only organic candles, but organic aromatherapy scented candles.

April , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Hi, my name is April Johnson , the chandler of Litty Candles LLC located in St.Louis, MO. Litty Candles offers high quality scented soy candles, that are sure to make your space smell lavish. Our Soy candles will bring an inviting blissful aroma into your home while eliminating pet odors, house odors, smoke odors, and etc. While being a small business owner I am proud of the consistency in offering candles to consumers even in the most challenging times. I want my clients to know how appreciative I am for all their support and believing in my candle products, remaining customers and supporting my process of becoming an evolving business owner. I will continue to learn more about improving and upscaling my candle and brand because I am always willing to grow and thrive within this industry. Litty Candles LLC is a small business that will be a large candle company amongst current and top competitors.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

One lesson I had to unlearn is self-conflicting thoughts and beliefs of myself. Having self-conflicting thoughts and belief in myself came from being around peers growing up. I believed in who people said I was, and it became my reality for years. I used to second guess myself and I certainly lacked confidence in myself and what I capable of achieving. I realized that I had to unlearn those beliefs that others would say about me and start evolving into the successful woman I want to be. As I’ve gotten older, I realized the importance of being self-aware and self-confidence takes you a long way in everything you do because it boils down to self belief. I know I had make some changes in this area and fast because if you don’t believe in yourself and what you have to offer to others, then they wouldn’t believe in you as well. I test waters with my candle products assuring it’s a great and high quality soy candle and other agree as well.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I’d say marketing my products on social media has built my reputation up within my market and through word of mouth of others. Networking events/Vendor events helped others find me. I’m always sharing new candle scents, rebranding, happy customers, and brand photography has helped me by far. I do know that if you have a great product that people love, they will spread the news about it. I believe using Google is a great way for marketing your products, many people have found my soy candle business here, and opportunities were granted from this source.
